WOMEN ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT MEETS THE EYE,by Myisha Watson

KANSAS CITY – You know, God has never created anything more precious and adoring than a woman. That being said, besides giving up a rib for their existence, what do men really know about them? Recently, Mass Appeal Editor Wayne Hodges sat down with Myisha Watson, 26, to get some answers. Myisha received her Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. When asked what truly makes a woman click, Myisha was quick to break it down.

HODGES: What advice would you give women struggling to reach their maximum potential in both life and business?

MYISHA: “First, a woman has to believe in herself. It doesn’t matter what others think. As long as women take pride in their existence, they’ll be just fine. If a woman lacks confidence, it’s certainly not the end of the world. There are legions of women suffering from setbacks caused by poor self-esteem at this very moment. However, I’d like to tell them hope is always present. Some people have asked me, “Where does your self-esteem come from?” And the first word that shoots out my mouth is ‘God.’ In my opinion, it’s imperative to maintain a positive mindset; especially during challenging times. However, to perfect a positive mindset, one must work at it. Practice certainly makes perfect.”

HODGES: What about women with zero confidence already?

MYISHA: “I have worked with females of all ages who suffer from lack of self-esteem. And although it’s challenging at first, I always encourage them to practice this simple technique. After you wake up in the morning, take a hard look in the mirror and tell yourself “I am worthy.” These words should be spoken even if she doesn’t originally believe them to be true. Why? If she echoes these words on a daily basis; eventually the verbiage will begin to stick. And before long, she will begin to believe she’s worth something special. People forget; words are very powerful. And just like it takes discouraging words to make a woman feel bad about herself; it takes words of kindness to make her feel better. As a society, we shouldn’t forget that.”

HODGES: Is it important for women to have positive girlfriends?

MYISHA: “Yes! It’s very important. As a matter of fact, it’s absolutely critical for women to surround themselves with positive influences. Like the common cold, negative vibes are also very contagious. And there’s no reason, in my opinion, to become immersed in anything unproductive. If a woman is serious about improving her self-esteem, she must establish positive relationships in all aspects of her life. This includes relationships, careers, friendships, etc. In addition to socializing with ‘birds of a similar feather,’ women should also participate in positive activities. Whether it’s reading a good book or watching positive televisions shows and movies; a person’s mentality is molded by the quality of material absorbed by the brain. That said, the most important aspect of building self-esteem is confidence. A woman can start by taking a good look in the mirror.”

You make a good point about surrounding yourself with positive influences. The company we keep often effects our mood, so it’s best to socialize with friends and family with similar positive goals.
