GOSPEL MUSIC ARTIST ADRIAN WILSON CONTINUES TO THRIVE IN KC, MassAppealNews.com
KANSAS CITY, Mo – Are you in the mood for gospel? If so, get out your seat and make some noise because Gospel recording artist Adrian Wilson is on the scene. As the lead singer of the group “Elevated Praise,” Wilson serves as the Minister of Music at Kansas City’s Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 4545 Benton. A few weeks ago, Wilson performed with acclaimed gospel music legend Fred Hammond in Overland Park and shook the house down.
“Just the opportunity to share a stage and perform with a legend like Fred Hammond is a blessing to me,” said Wilson during our interview. “This entire experience has been awesome. I love Fred Hammond and he continues to be my idol in gospel.” Recently, Wilson took time to discuss his career with Mass Appeal editor Wayne Hodges. Their Q&A went as follows:
HODGES: Adrian, thanks for taking the time to grant this interview. I know you’re extremely busy. Can you take a moment to describe the inspiration behind your career in Gospel? How did you got started?
WILSON: I was one of those kids that was raised in church and didn’t have an option. My grandmother took me to church at least 5 days a week. And my interest sort of took off from there. I come from a strong singing family. My mother, aunts, and grandmother are all choir members.
HODGES: What are some of your most memorable performances?
WILSON: In high school, I signed with ‘Big Dog Records’ and became a member of the group “Perfect Image.” We opened for R. Kelly, Boyz to Men, Brandi, and Jodeci. Then later, I performed with the group “Posse for Christ” during Dr. Bobby Jones’ new artist retreat.
HODGES: Can you talk about your church? Also, fill us in on any new projects?
WILSON: Right now, Elevated Praise is working on a new CD entitled “A New Day.” It’s scheduled to release the 1st quarter of 2010. As for Oak Grove, what can I say? It’s an awesome place. Our senior pastor, Kim L. Gladney, is awesome. I am taught the word every single week. No offense to the other churches out there, but Oak Grove is the best place for me. It goes down at the Grove.
HODGES: Any closing comments you’d like to share with the readers?
WILSON: Yes, I want to thank you personally for conducting this interview. I’m a big fan of your work and I enjoy the messages you share with the community. I pray that God assist you in your goals. And keep up the good work.
