Tom Joyner hosted event in KC!

TOM JOYNER HOSTED THE ‘GREEN IMPACT ZONE’ EVENT IN KANSAS CITY, by Crystal Booker
KANSAS CITY, MO – On Saturday, December 5, the community came out to support the ‘Green Impact Zone Project.’ Radio phenom Tom Joyner of the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” (heard locally on radio station Magic 107.3) was the honorable emcee for the event. After the ceremony, I had the pleasure of asking Tom a few questions. Our Q&A interview went as follows:
CB: Tom how did you get involved with the Green Impact Zone?
JOYNER: Well the radio station called and asked me to come. They said it would be like one big party, but a party with a purpose.
CB: What do you think of Kansas City?

Tom Joyner made his presence felt in KC
JOYNER: I love Kansas City. There is a lot of art here and good music.
CB: Yes, Kansas City is rich in culture. What advice would you give to someone wanting to do what you do?
JOYNER: Pray, keep a lot of jobs, and don’t turn down a job.
CB: Thank you Tom for your time. It was a pleasure.
JOYNER: You’re welcome and thank you.
More about the Green Impact Zone…
The Green Impact Zone was an initiative proposed by U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (pictured below). This initiative also includes weatherization programs, job training and job placement, housing rehab, health and wellness programs, community policing and services and neighborhood outreach programs. The neighborhoods apart of the zone are 39th to 51st streets, and Troost to Prospect and Swope Parkway.

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver discusses the “Green Project”
These are neighborhoods that have declined and are wrought with abandoned properties and vacant lots, once vibrant neighborhoods now with properties in need of extreme repair. The residents of these neighborhoods can now breathe a sigh of relief thanks to the Green Impact Zone. This project will bring jobs, hope and revitalization to a community in dyer straights for change. The project so far has been a success and the support from the community has been over whelming. Improvements can already be seen. The change is a wonderful welcome. Residents can take pride in their neighborhoods once again.
According to the Green Impact Zone their strategy is to transform this community into a thriving, sustainable neighborhood. By utilizing a core team of leaders within the neighborhood and community development organizations in the zone, as well as the, nonprofit, private, and civic leadership necessary to support a comprehensive strategy that will transform the entire zone. This seems to be working. The changes being made are starting to manifest and the neighborhoods are starting to look great proving that great things can happen when we as a community come together.

I agree with Mona4Christ. I am a big Tom Joyner fan. I have listened to him on radio the last 10 years and he has not lost a step. I am kind of torn between him and Steve Harvey because I love them both, but Mr. Joyner will always be one of my favorites. I am also glad he is working with Emanuel Cleaver on the Green Impact Zone Project. This sounds like a wonderful program. Nice story!
