BASEHOR, KS – Whether you made the obligatory resolutions or not, there are probably some areas of your life that just aren’t working for you. There’s only one person who can make those changes…you! Don’t despair – there’s a book for that; in fact, many, many books. Read along.
48 Days To The Work You Love by Dan Miller (2005)
According to amazon.com “48 Days to the Work You Love” is not about finding a new job. It is about finding out what you are going to “be.” According to Dan Miller, failing to make that fundamental discovery is why so many people find themselves in jobs they hate. But the great news is this book will lead you to the vocation you will love. If you like this book, try his newer one as well, No More Mondays: Fire Yourself — and Other Revolutionary Ways to Discover Your True Calling at Work (2008)
The Program: The Brain-Smart Approach to the Healthiest You: The Life-Changing 12-Week Method by Kelly Traver, M.D.(2009)
This one just came out the end of December and yours truly is getting ready to start week 2. This is NOT a diet book – it really is about being healthy and living a balanced and happier life. Not only have people lost weight on this program; many have reduced their blood pressure, controlled their diabetes, improved their ability to sleep, and reduced stress. Personally, I am finding this book easy to read and very motivating. Stay tuned for my results!
Easier Than You Think …because life doesn’t have to be so hard: The Small Changes That Add Up to a World of Difference by Richard Carlson (2005)
If you only read ONE book this year that has the potential to impact your life in a positive way, this is the one. The book is small and the chapters are about 3 pages each – no excuses for not having time for this one! Each of the 39 techniques that Carlson shares are simple yet significant ways we can alter our lives. There is no way to express the power of this book – just read it. Don’t forget, it may be as close as your local library.
Have a great 2010 and keep reading!

Jenne, love your column! I will look up your suggestions. have you read “Not My Daughter” by Barbara Delinsky??? It is really good. If you get a chance, do a review on this one. The description is pasted below.
“When Susan Tate’s seventeen-year-old daughter, Lily, announces she is pregnant, Susan is stunned. A single mother, she has struggled to do everything right. She sees the pregnancy as an unimaginable tragedy for both Lily and herself. Then comes word of two more pregnancies among high school juniors.”
