KANSAS CITY, MO – Lookin’ to get out and party this weekend? Well, you’re in the right place baby! After decades of setting the mark for night life futility, Kansas City has become one of the most exciting tourist towns in America. The “City of Fountains” is now loaded with a variety of extravagant night life establishments and dance clubs. Whether you’re single or hitched, old or young, rich or poor, it doesn’t matter. Umm…actually, it does sort of matter if you’re poor. But, you get the point. If you have plans of shakin’ a tail feather this Friday and/or Saturday night; check out our recommendations for the hottest locales in KC Metro.
A RARE COMBINATION OF TALENT AND BEAUTY, NINA SKY ROCKS THE PARTY!
Tengo Sed Cantina: Located at 1323 Walnut Street, Kansas City MO, 64105, Review by Wayne Hodges – This Mexican style party bar gives the Power & Light District a look and vibe comparable to a nice, romantic, summer night in Cancun. And, to be candid, Tengo just happens to be every bachelor’s dream. The club is crawling with a diverse collection of attractive women who are not afraid to let loose on the dance floor. For bachelorettes, if you’re not too shy to boogie, you’ll have one heck of a time. The DJ plays a nice mix of reggaeton, hip-hop and house music that promises to keep you partying for hours. Common artists include Flo Rida, Pit Bull, Lil Wayne and Nina Sky to name a few.
The only negative is sometimes the place can get a little packed; which could make it difficult to navigate. And the wild party atmosphere could discourage couples from entering. But, considering this place is tailor-made for singles, it’s not really much of a problem. The waitresses, who are stunning in their own right, are trained to wiggle their rumps. The hostess delivers fresh, cold beverages with a smile. And, most importantly, nobody’s “stuck-up” in this joint. If you like to dance and mingle, and you’re at least 21-years-old, this club is definitely for you. Hopefully, you won’t get harassed over dress code issues. Power & Light, your stock is falling. Rating: 9 out of 10
THE FIREFLY LOUNGE IN WESTPORT IS REALLY OFF THE CHARTS, By Crystal Booker
The Firefly Lounge in Westport: Located at 4118 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City MO, 64111, Review by Magic 107.3’s Crystal Booker – Kansas City Night Life is on fire in Westport. According to Brian the doorman, the feel good party is at the Firefly. Everybody is buzzing about this place. The vibe is alive and kicking. The music gets you on your feet. DJ Sikenomics keeps the dance floor packed as he plays a nice mixture of reggae, salsa, r&b and a bit of hip hop. The whole atmosphere is really cool. The crowd is diverse and in perfect sync. The bar is loaded. And the drinks aren’t watered down. I haven’t had this much fun going out in a long time. I had an absolute blast! Below are statements from people in attendance.
CJ Horn: “Feel good music, neosoul, reggae, r&b I feel this is the vision for Kansas City.”
Kerry, a first time patron: “This is a very interesting mixed crowd. This reminds me of Central West End University Loop in ST. Louis.”
Marlin, a regular visitor: “I like the vibe it’s more open, more spirited and less uptight.”
Summary: The cover charge is only five bucks; a small price to pay for fun of this magnitude. The atmosphere is awesome and the music is great! Now, the ‘grown and sexy’ crowd have a place to go that promises a good time. Why don’t you visit the Firefly and experience the fun for yourself? I had a blast and I’m sure you will too!
FROM THE LIL ENGINE THAT COULD, LIL WAYNE IS NOW THE MACK TRUCK OF HIP-HOP!
Raoul’s Velvet Room: Located at 7222 W. 119th Street, Overland Park KS, 66213, Review by Wayne Hodges - A personal favorite of mine, Raoul’s is one of the hottest pop music joints this side of the Power & Light District. However, if you’re single and lookin’ for a mate, this club may not be for you. Raoul’s is more suited for couples that want to spend a night out on the town together. The lighting is dimmed perfectly. And the tables and love seats, which have candle light, are set up in areas that provide a nice view of the dance floor.
The only negative is there’s absolutely no slow music. The DJ plays a mixture of techno, hip-hop, rock ‘n roll, and reggae. Common artists include Fergie & the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Kanye West to name a few. So, if you’re lookin’ to get your two-step on, you can forget it here. That said, Raoul’s is a very classy establishment more suited for working professionals lookin’ to let down their hair for a night. Hey, stiff conservatives deserve to have a little fun too, right? Rating: 8.5 out of 10
A PARTY JUST AIN’T A PARTY WITHOUT JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!
Epicurean Night Club: Located at 7502 Troost, Kansas City MO, 64131, Review by Wayne Hodges – Speaking of two-steppin,’ the Epicurean Restaurant & Lounge is regionally known as “two-step” capital. The club doesn’t have the ambiance of the aforementioned clubs. But, if you’re a fan of Switch, the O’Jays, DeBarge, or any other popular singing group from the 1970’s and 1980’s, the atmosphere probably won’t matter. I can’t lie to ya, the venue is definitely a hole-in-the-wall. But, the dress code (which requires church attire to enter) keeps everybody lookin’ sharp. The gentlemen are usually dressed in designer dress shirts and slacks.
That said, it’s certainly not uncommon to see an “ole school playa” in his 50’s decked out in a bright neon suit. As for the ladies attire? No problems in this department. I give ‘em all a big “thumbs up!” To summarize, the “Ep” is suited for both couples and singles. Just understand most of the women in attendance can be a little finicky when selecting dance partners. Meaning? If you don’t give the slightest impression you have your stuff together, you can forget about a dance. Therefore, I strongly recommend you “fake it until you make it.” Catch my drift? Rating: 7 out of 10
A MAINSTAY IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, BEYONCE KNOWS HOW TO BOOGIE!
America’s Pub in Westport: Located at 510 Westport Road, Kansas City MO, 64111, Review by Wayne Hodges – This party bar, to be candid, suffers from schizophrenia. Seriously, you don’t know what to expect. One night, the DJ will blow you away with some Beyonce, Usher, Jay Z, Lil Jon and P. Diddy. The next night he’ll spin “YMCA” by the Village People. So, as you can tell, this is a very difficult venue to assess. That said, when the music is right, America’s Pub can certainly rock with the best of ‘em. The crowd is very diverse. The lighting is definitely not the best. But, I guess it’s sufficient. Just make sure to mingle near the bar if you want a better view of the person you meet.
The dance floor, which is located approximately 3 feet below surface area, is huge. And the ladies, who like to travel in packs, are usually in the party spirit. The joint is probably better suited for singles. However, if you’re a bachelor lookin’ to meet that special someone; please be extremely careful. Many of the ladies in attendance are already actively involved in serious relationships. Yet, they pretend to be single in order to land replacements. See, women are always two steps ahead. The same is also true with some of the guys. So, rather than get caught up in a bunch of turmoil, you may want to stick to the following regimen: 1) chug a few cold ones, 2) slip in a sexy dance or two, and 3) get the hell out of dodge. I’m warning you. Anything extra could get a little risky. Rating: 7.5 out of 10

I am different, I really don’t go to the Power & Light District. I love to feel my own company. It is too messy with junk and like to have fun.
I am a two-stepper and for sure they are not paying my kind of music. So I like to check out the Smuggler Inn that I heard on the radio. You probably don’t know much about that Wayne. (lol) IT’S 4 THE TWO-STEPPERS!!
I still sometimes enjoy The Experience because the owner finally listened to me and went up to 30 years old. I don’t like kickin it with people my boys age.
I will be there this Thursday to cut a rug, Wayne just continue doing what you do and when you want to graduation to two stepping, holla at me.

The Power & Light District is pretty sweet, especially since they got rid of that stupid dress code that turned alot of people off. Man the ladies are hot though and you right about diversity. When I was there I got my groove on with honeys of all color Asians, Black, White, and Latina. I couldn’t keep the babes off me I promise I’m goin back.

How you gone leave out America’s Pub in Westport? I went last Saturday at the joint was jumpin. Women were everywhere. I left with a few phone numbers. I was mad when they raised the cover to $10.00 but once I got inside I realized it was one hell of an investment. For brews and babes come to A-Pub!

Sorry to hear about your breakup. Since you’re relatively new to the club scene, I recommend the Moziac Lounge in the Power & Light District. It’s a nice, upscale establishment with a great party atmosphere. I can’t think of a better place to break you in.
