Scientists blame Obama for oil spill

President Barack Obama has taken heat for oil spill

SCIENTISTS ACCUSE PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR OIL SPILL, by Justin Gillis (NY Times)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tensions between the Obama administration and the scientific community over the gulf oil spill are escalating, with prominent oceanographers accusing the government of failing to conduct an adequate scientific analysis of the damage and of allowing BP to obscure the spill’s true scope. The scientists assert that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other agencies have been slow to investigate the magnitude of the spill and the damage it is causing in the deep ocean. They are especially concerned about getting a better handle on problems that may be occurring from large plumes of oil droplets that appear to be spreading beneath the ocean surface.

The scientists point out that in the month since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, the government has failed to make public a single test result on water from the deep ocean. And the scientists say the administration has been too reluctant to demand an accurate analysis of how many gallons of oil are flowing into the sea from the gushing oil well. “It seems baffling that we don’t know how much oil is being spilled,” Sylvia Earle, a famed oceanographer, said Wednesday on Capitol Hill. “It seems baffling that we don’t know where the oil is in the water column.”

‘EARLY STAGES’

The administration acknowledges that its scientific resources are stretched by the disaster, but contends that it is moving to get better information, including a more complete picture of the underwater plumes. “We do not have a comprehensive understanding as of yet of where that oil is,” Jane Lubchenco, administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), told Congress. “We’re in the early stages of doing that, and we do not have a comprehensive understanding as of yet of where that oil is,” Jane Lubchenco, the NOAA administrator, told Congress on Wednesday. “But we are devoting all possible resources to understanding where the oil is and what its impact might be.”

The administration has mounted a huge response to the spill, deploying 1,105 vessels to try to skim oil, burn it and block it from shorelines. As part of the effort, the federal government and the Gulf Coast states have begun an extensive effort to catalog any environmental damage to the coast. The Environmental Protection Agency is releasing results from water sampling near shore. In most places, save for parts of Louisiana, the contamination appears modest so far. The big scientific question now is what is happening in deeper water. While it is clear that water samples have been taken, the results have not been made public.

    Goodmorning,
While it does not take a ROCKET SCIENTISTS to figure out everything go wrong it OBAMA’S fault. If he sneeze the wrong way, they are going to blame him for air pollution. I love reading and listening to how IGNORANT our Beautiful American really is. They hate it that he is in office but when we had all these DUMB MONEY HUNGRY presidents before him, everything was COOL. This is another reason for us to, WAKE UP ALL THE CHILDREN NO MORE SLEEPYING IN BED, THE WORLD WANT GET ANY BETTER IF WE JUST LET IT BE!!!!
The same old hateful people in office have ran this country to hatred and poverty since the beginning of time and the sad is they are fighting so hard that he dont change the CORRUPTION and HATE. If it was left up to me, I will FIRE everyone in the White House and start from scratch picking the best person for the people. PLUS, we would have save money because they would not be getting MILLIONS of our tax dollars to take theri girlfriends all over the world while their wives are at home shopping. They would not be getting two or three million dollar bonuses while the working family is losing their homes, jobs, and lives. We have real problems but they try to kept our President Obama tide up so he can not focus on the problems they have created. This is how is really RAN if everyong would just wake up and smell the coffee. Since day one they have kept people divided by race and money. They tell you when certain races will die, how long they will live, and control their education in their communities. We are the ones that lacks the knowledge and power by sitting back letting them continue PIMPING us while we die BROKE.
    Keep it Real,
    Spiffy

  3. PRIME MINISTER Says:

i agree with Spiffy on this one. Obama seems to get all the blame no matter what. I think the media and political watchdogs need to find another target to shoot their anger. Obama and his administration is not gettin a fair shake

Men and Women, we can beat around the bush alday long and play like we dont know the situation. AS LONG AS A BLACK MAN IS IN CONTROL OF RACIST AMERICAN’S, HE WILL ALWAYS GET THE HURT, PAIN, AND BLAME. Jim Carter told everyone he could see the hatred through his own white skin so wake up and listen. They just dont want any black man telling them what to do.

I see no reasoning for blaming Obama. American’s are not looking at the bigger picture! I just want to stand up and say “What is wrong with you people?” If the tables were turned and this crisis was a US oil company was on the shore lines of Britain’s coast in the same catastrophic situation, American’s would never hear the end of it. Britain’s would be standing on their soap boxes ranting and raving that the American company and US government should clean up the mess regardless that a company is its own entity.
Rather than blaming Obama, American’s should be in unity placing the blame on the British government and British Petroleum (BP) for its lack and inept ability to control risk, and clean up the oil, let alone cease the spreading of it before it becomes a global issue. Why are there no British naval ships offering to aide in the clean up ?No British aid to finance BP’s expedition to expedite the recovery process?
It is always easy for American’s to yell that our government imposes too many rights against our freedoms, or not enough. Yet when our freedom’s are being choked by a foreign company (British Petroleum), and our nation is in jeopardy of losing natural resources, wildlife, and quality of life. Then I too stand along the American people that Obama needs to step up to the plate, get rid of our threat. While this is not a true terrorist act done intentionally, its affects will outlast many generations after we are all long gone if Obama does not put our military men and woman, where they are need most; at home on the forefront of our shorelines. American’s should unify together to do all they can to clean up and protect our resources and wildlife. Volunteering and worry about compensation later. Let’ us all get out there and do our part and send BP the bill later.

  6. Don Mitchel Says:

You can blame BP for the problem, but either our Federal Government has been calling the shots from the begining or our president lied. PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT OUGHT TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK
There is another way to create lobs and go green other than negotiating hidden carbon emmissions and currency manipulation with a communist country.
(1 ) knowing the way this administration has treated the gulf disaster by trying to hide the damage, adding toxic dispersant, creating a still far greater unknown risk to the environment, establishing a direct link to the aquatic food chain as it sinks and is moved through shipping lanes by ballast systems, (2 ) their lack of concern for protecting our Great Lakes from the Asian carp, escaping the waters of our presidents home state, (3) with a military ballast water plan following the IMO ( a group representing foreign economic interest) lead for 10 years, with our secretary of state calling for quick ratification of the Law of the Sea treaty which help to lock our ballast water laws to international economic interest, (4) since house passage of H.R.2830’s timeline again stiffiling congress with yet another scientific study for allowable limits of organisms, pathogens and virus particle counts, in ballast water so the military can apply them to their plan which would be subject to the next commander and chief again calling for “change” in 2012. (5) Administration, political support for senator Boxer who killed ballast water legislation in 2008. (6) asking governor Patterson who in his short time created some of the toughest state ballast water laws that will affect all Great Lakes states in 2012, to step aside ( 7) and the president has public a rift with rep Oberstar who was instrumental in 2008 ballast water legislation, destroyed by Boxer, about how to create jobs when a report for congress in 2010 suggest that ballast water laws would cause the price of foreign goods to rise. (8)In the middle east immediately after a major spill they commandeered tankers and began clean up (estimated 85% recovery) The use of ships for clean up this way suggested to white house in the beginning while they were busy with dispersant. (9)Their controversial environmental stance for fish farming in the gulf (probably dose not matter now). (10) The presidents Great Lakes restoration and oceans initiative plan is to abide by IMO and international treaties not create a new plan for America with strong American legislation signed into law.

@ AS LONG AS A BLACK MAN IS IN CONTROL OF RACIST AMERICAN’S, HE WILL ALWAYS GET THE HURT, PAIN, AND BLAME. Spiffy, we don’t mind that a black man is in charge, there are countless black men that would do a wonderful job! We mind that our current president is a complete total inept fool that can’t even get out of his own way. This is the “HOPE AND CHANGE” that you voted for! ENJOY THIS TRAIN WRECK IN SLOW MOTION! 2012 cannot get here soon enough!
