I know its been almost a year since this blog started but I just had to chime in and say that Wyco is full of ignorant people that don't keep up with the news or the local government. My wife ran for Mayor to address the very issues these people are crying about now!! High taxes, BPU rates, unfair practices toward the minority community which include and not limited to Police harassment, code enforcement and development. If these same people along with other "in the dark" folks had voted, these issues would have been addressed now! Walmart would still be on state ave, Indian Springs would be getting revamped, the Northeast would see proper re-development , the Underground railroad of Quindaro would've gotten its proper recognition with signage letting out-of-town visitors know there is true history in WYCO along with annual parades and free tours for all District 500 kids, court major Industry ie: Pepsi Co., to promote job growth with pay that will allow people to have a decent lifestyle with benefits, find developers that would build family oriented entertainment sites like go-kart tracks and still pursue the development going on out west. BUT...thats all a dream gone past and WYCO will not progress like many think it will because you still got high taxes, high BPU bills and a corrupt system leading you all, MAFIA STYLE!! Take a drive down 13th st going south toward wood and see what the powers that be think of the northeast as a whole, STRUGGLERS HILL!!! We had enough and had the smarts to move and take our tax dollars out of the pockets of those that don't care about us!!

I just want to know when will the unified govt start rehabbing the northeast part of the county. Everything is going out in Piper and bonner springs. what about the east side. i live on 6th Stewart and I have to drive way out on 110th street just to go to Walmart. Are there any plans to build a walmart downtown?

crystal this a good interview. they need to get rid of all those homeless people in the DOT. I used to live in Wyandotte but it seem like I could never find a good job there and the taxes was real high. when I got my car tagged there it cost $400. I moved to Johnson county and my tags only cost $160. I think alot of people would come back to Wyandotte if the lowered thetaxes and the utilities. times are too hard to be charging people extra.

Dealing with the issue of homelessness is a good start. But the mayor should focus on lowering the taxes and BPU rates. My light bill was $500 last month and I still dont know how I am going to pay it. I think the UG is making us pay for the businesses at Village West and thats not fair. How can we pay our taxes when our bills are so high??? If these bills and taxes dont go down we will all be homeless.
