Classic Rock 101: Mr. Mister

Mr Mister

MR. MISTER DELIVERED A SMOOTH, MELODIC SOUND TO ROCK ‘N ROLL, by Wayne Hodges

PHOENIX, AZ – Mr. Mister, a popular American rock band in the 1980s, is nationally known for delivering a smooth, melodic sound to classic rock ‘n roll. Does the popular track “Broken Wings” ring a bell? Ok, I know what you’re thinking. What’s up with the name “Mr. Mister?” Allow me to explain. As part of an inside joke about a weather report called “Mr. Gone,” the band started referring to each other as “Mister This” and “Mister That” before settling on the aforementioned “Mr. Mister.” Kinda weird, huh?

The group consists of vocalist Richard Page, Steve George on keyboards, Pat Mastelotto on the drums and Steve Farris on guitars. Page, who had worked as a session musician for studio icon Quincy Jones, composed several chart-busting hits for such legends as Michael Jackson, Kenny Loggins, Donna Summer, Al Jarreau and many others. In the late 1970s, Page and his childhood friend Steve George formed the band “Pages.” After gaining some national attention with the popular single “I Do Believe in You,” the group decided to stay together and suddenly “Mr. Mister” was born.

Even though the band started from complete obscurity, it didn’t take long for Mr. Mister to reel in some success; thanks to an abundance of industry experience. Prior to the group’s formation, each member had done extensive session work for other artists; bringing numerous influences to the band. What can I say? Mr. Mister is without a doubt a true music legend.
