Blacks lament economy

Blacks out of work

WASHINGTON ( – To a large number of Americans, an economic recovery without jobs is not really a recovery at all. Overall, 55 percent of Americans picked either the general economy (29 percent) or joblessness (26 percent) as the country’s most important problem, according to a Gallup poll released Friday, making this the fifth straight month of the year that Americans put the economy and unemployment atop their list.

The next most popular answer was the federal deficit, at 13 percent. But now, there are a number of demographic groups that are identifying unemployment as an even bigger concern than the broader economy.

Indeed, unemployment, not the general economy, was the top issue of concern for blacks, senior citizens, and people who earned $30,000 or less per year, according to the Gallup poll.

Meanwhile, men, white respondents, adults under age 65, and individuals earning at least $30,000 per year were all more likely to say that the broader economy is, right now, more important than jobs.

And while there was notable distance in the amount of concern expressed over budget deficits and the quality of health care, there was one area of broad consensus: people are dissatisfied with the government. That dissatisfaction ranked among the top concerns for nearly every group, particularly with respondents over 50 years old.

The Gallup results come just a week after a tepid jobs report indicated that just over 54,000 private-sector jobs were created in May. Overall unemployment rose to 9.1 percent from 9 percent.

  1. Excuse me, the president is NOT Black, he is bi racial. And if everyone keeps ignoring his upbringing in a white home, raised by white family…then you are being terribly blind. President Obama may be happy to be riding on the term, but I won’t let him get away with playing that game. He should be constantly reminding people that he is also white.

  2. Deport illegals...that will give jobs back to Americans of all color.

  3. What burns my toast is how some employers hire greenbacks to come here and work. They pay for their transportation here, pay for their housing while they are here and up until this year they only had 1.00 taken out in taxes for every 100.00 they earned. And we citizens that work with them are expected to learn Spanish so we can converse with them. Thank you Pres. Clinton! They may be lower paying jobs but at least they are jobs. Some of these places won’t hire US citizens because they would rather have these people. That’s real loyalty.

  4. Now wait. The people say the economy is in the tank. But the government says we are doing just fine and on the road to recovery. Who is a body to believe? The government who sticks it too us any time they can? Legislators who only pander to who lines their pockets with the shiniest of metals? Or the neighbor next door who is living in a tent because his house was repossessed because he lost his job in this prospering economy? So in 2012 are we going to take four more years of hoping this guy will change the US for the good?

  5. 98% of all Blacks voted for Obama…... live with it !!

  6. When is their messiah going to help them? Does he care?

  7. Obama is “Uncle Tom” and “Benedict Arnold” all wrapped up in one.

He dont give a DAMN about black folk. Dr. Cornell West and Tavis Smiley have been warning us for some time. When will black people listen????

  8. F*CK OBAMA!!

  9. give me a WHITE president. black man let us down again.
