GRAHAM, Washington (HuffingtonPost.com) – The father who deliberately killed himself and his two sons in a fire left a despondent and apologetic phone message with relatives shortly before Sunday’s murder-suicide.
“I am not able to live without my sons, and I’m not able to go on anymore. I’m sorry to everyone I’ve hurt. Goodbye,” Josh Powell said in a voicemail to unidentified relatives obtained by ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Powell’s ominous words were recorded 20 minutes before he attacked his sons Braden, 5, and Charles, 7, with a hatchet moments after they bounded into his Graham, Wash. home ahead of a Child Protective Services worker who accompanied them for a supervised visit with their dad.
Powell locked out the child welfare worker before chopping Charles in the neck and Braden in the head and neck, according to an autopsy report. He then set a fire that quickly engulfed the house. All three apparently died from smoke inhalation, Fox News says.

The father is a MONSTER. I read the boys had told someone mommy was in the trunk of the car and daddy put her in a cave. I think he killed his sons to hurt his wife’s parents.

He kills their mother, then he kills them. When the judge ordered him to be psychologically evaluated, the kids should not have been able to visit during this time. Unstable people act unstable. Don’t act surprised when this happens.

I live not too far from where it happened. Got a breaking news text during game, pretty much ruined the day. WHAT A HORRIBLE thing for everyone, I’m especailly concerned for the poor social worker. Just cannot predict what a person may do.

Also the boys were getting older and able to verbally express themselves better. This killer father was afraid that more and more info would come out and he would be cornered. What a despicable person. Both he and his own father.

God Bless Susan’s parents they seem like very nice people and I cannot imagine the horrible heartbreak they must be feeling right now. Its beyond horrific that they should have to experience tragically losing their daughter now their grandsons..

Supervised visits are always done with the worker there. The story goes that the kids were ahead of the worker going to the house and Josh pulled them in and shut and locked the door on the worker.

He chose to do this after learning the court wanted a psych evaluation before considering giving custody of his boys back to him cops were also closing the noose on him over his wife’s killing so he chose to kill those innocent boys
