The concert was done in charity with all proceeds given to the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Jay-Z, who donned a tux while holding a glass of champagne in hand, rocked the crowd with a 36-piece orchestra that included ?uestlove of the Roots.
Alicia Keys also performed, getting behind the piano for their hit single “Empire State of Mind.” The concert marked the only the second time that a rapper has performed at Carnegie Hall with Wyclef of The Fugee’s being the first. Ticket prices ranged from $1,500-$2,500.
