Mass Appeal Wire Reports

LAS VEGAS — She has soul. Wondaland honco and Kansas City native Janelle Monáe was among the dozens of celebs to attend the 2015 Soul Train Music Awards in Las Vegas on Friday (Nov. 6). The 29-year-old “Yoga” singer posed for pics with Tyrese and others after hitting the red carpet with fellow Wondaland artist Jidenna. Veteran songstress Erykah Badu hosted the event and received rave reviews for treating the audience to a nice admixture of soul and comedy. Bruno Mars was arguably the night’s biggest winner. The 30-year-old vocalist took home the award for ‘Song of the Year’ for his hit single “Uptown Funk.”

Veteran songwriter Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds was presented the prestigious Legend Award by Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid. Philadelphia native Jill Scott delivered the event’s warmest acceptance speech after being honored with the Lady of Soul Award.

There was also a “Soul Cypher,” comparable to BET’s hip hop Cypher Series, that featured Chrisette Michele, K-Ci, Eddie Levert, Lalah Hathaway and Erykah. The 2015 Soul Train Music Awards will premiere Sunday night, Nov. 29th at 7:00 p.m. CST on Centric.

  2. Really looking forward to watching this show. Big fan of Badu!

  3. Yep. A bunch of no name no talent hacks that after all of this nobody will still know them. Hardly anybody knows who Janelle is in the first place. She had to stoop to the BLM thing to get some attention. Gee at just the same time she was putting out her label. So I took a listen to this so called music that is a mess. Blacks supposedly want to be taken serious and viewed as better. Yet with this tune it is the same old stuff. Some simplistic back beat and nothing more than dropping F-bombs, using the N word and calling women #$%$. Guess Janelle must be proud that she has some fine young black men still badmouthing women to this day. But then again she has just jumped on the hating honky gravy train to try and make a buck. Let’s see if anyone of them survive this time next year.
