Moesha stars squash their 20-year beef

Countess Vaughn apologizes to Brandy Norwood.

Mass Appeal Wire Reports

LOS ANGELES — The 20-year Moesha feud appears to finally be over. That’s because, on Saturday, actress Countess Vaughn waved the white flag in a rambling Instagram letter — apologizing to former costar Brandy Norwood for acting a damn fool nearly two decades ago. Back in April 1998, Brandy, 36, told Vibe magazine she and Countess, 37, were on bad terms in spite of their tight onscreen chemistry as best friends on the ’90s UPN show.

“I think she’s very funny, very talented,” Brandy told the magazine. “And she’s called me a bitch to my face. She said, ‘I’m the reason why the show is successful, bitch.’ In front of a lot of people. And I looked at her like, Wow. I couldn’t say nothing about her because I wasn’t about to. She knows. She wakes up and looks at herself in the mirror and gets disgusted. I don’t.”

Things have apparently changed in the new millennium. In a desperate effort to make amends, Countess posted a pic of Brandy on Instagram with the lengthy caption: “@4everbrandy I’m proud of you. For placing one foot in front of the other. For waking up every morning and simply giving it your best shot. for placing a premium on personal growth too. We been [through our] ups and downs , high and lows … But at the end of the day I had to learn in find myself why not be friends when we’re both talented, Why call you names when your just an amazing person… I’m proud of you for being you and working to rise to the best you inside of you.”

“You are an amazing being with amazing God-given capacity. I believe in who you are and who you are working to be,” Countess continued in her Instagram ramble. “I believe in your ability to stand and courageously be the person you were meant to be. Im not perfect , no where near it… I care about your life and your happiness. I wouldn’t do what I did if I didn’t. I care about you as a person. We are spiritual siblings, you and I.”

“I apologize for anything Negative I’ve ever done are said to you,” she concluded. “Sorry this had to be on social media , I just want the world to see that I’ve grown out of my comfort zone….. Hopefully one day I can tell you in person or on the phone to let you know I mean everything I’ve wrote ….. I didn’t do this for applause, because we all know that some people don’t believe celebrities to be ‘human,’ but this came from a very human place. No matter how or if she respond know that the Universe will continue to bring me growth and happiness because that is what im putting out there… Congratulations on every thing you’ve accomplished… Love you beautiful …. happy holidays from Countess.”

After catching wind of Countess’ heartfelt apology, Brandy returned the favor through her Instagram account. The actress posted a throwback image from the set of Moesha with the caption: “@countessdvaughn we still here!!! Thank you again for your heart today.”

they didnt get along?? what?!? they seemed so tight on the show

  2. I think we like to believe that the chemistry between actors in a production translates into real life, sometimes it does or doesn’t. I’m glad to see that Countess took a bold and public move to reach out and apologize to Brandy. As young people we are sometimes very passionate and emotional in a negative way. It shows growth and character to make amends for past conflicts. Carrying grudges is never profitable. I pray they are able to reestablish a good relationship.

  3. When trying to climb the Hollywood ladder to fame there is much hate and jealousy to deal with. No doubt Moesha was the star of that show, and every actors in that series did a marvelous job. Still no matter how much your co-stars or other people in general smile in your face, you simply have to watch your back. I am a small town gospel keyboard player of many years, and have found that the churches that I play for have many haters dressed to the nines and hating at the same time. It’s good they patched things up, but Moesha and every other entertainer on any level has to keep our enemies in sight.

  4. I know there was talk back in the day that Brandy and her Mother were impossible to deal with on the set of Moesha. I think it was mainly the mother. I know Sheryl Lee Ralph budded heads with them as well as the actress Thea when Brandy was on her show. So I think both Brandy and Countess were to blame and add to the fact that they were kids Im sure a lot of mean things went on. Thank God for growth….You look back and realize all that stuff was so silly and means nothing now.

So proud to finally see two people of color being supportive and uplifting of one another instead of tearing each other down. Kudos to both of these women, especially Countess.

  6. It’s great to see women, supporting women. We need this in the world today. Brandy bring back your wonderful vocals, the most original singing voice, that forever stands out, and Countess you are talented and incredible.

  7. I applaud Contess for her statement to Brandy. Brandy however, was much less talented than Countess from what I could see and hear. Brandy had a much better promoter than Countess, so therefore she got the most attention and opportunities. But in all honesty and being truly truthful; Countess Vaughn was a much better actor and singer than Brandy Norwood. And much more attractive too. I’m not hating but being very HONEST. I wish Brandy much success with her new show and Countess Vaughn with much success with whatever endeavors she is embarking on at the present. Looking forward to hearing her (Countess) sing AGAIN.
