KANSAS CITY — As I’m working out at the gym, I’m watching a lady do about 1000 sit ups. I can practically see her thinking that when she finishes putting herself through all that torture, her stomach roll will somehow magically disappear. Nope. It’s still there. And it’s not just her… It’s all of us. As a society, we have such an obsession with having a flat stomach. But straight talk… we only want to do part of the work it takes to get it. As the old adage goes, “Abs are made in the kitchen.”

That’s right. Roughly 80% of the work you need to do on those abs happens through your daily eating plan [also known as your diet]. You can’t eat 3200 calories and 109 grams of fat, then burn 450 calories at the gym and expect to get a flat stomach. No, no, no. You do the math.
What I’m saying is the time you spend on sit-ups and crunches would be better spent planning your diet. You can’t out-work a bad diet, folks. There’s no out-running a dozen Dunkin Donuts. So instead of hitting the gym to do 1,000 sit-ups, how about hitting the kitchen with just a few good ideas?
