Mass Appeal Wire Reports
NEW YORK — Kerry Washington had plenty on her mind this weekend and she let her 4 million Twitter followers know about it. The Scandal actress, who recently gave birth to her second child [son Caleb Kelechi Asomugha], felt the need to “rant” after a 66-year-old black woman was shot dead by a NYPD sergeant at her apartment on Tuesday. “It’s a quiet Saturday afternoon. So, a few things I wanna get off my chest,” Kerry, 39, wrote in the first of a series of emotional tweets.
My heart aches. For lives lost and for the lives we must protect. For the humanity we must work to illuminate and preserve and affirm. #BLM

“The loss of #DeborahDanner has rattled my core,” Kerry continued. “Not only becuz of painful truth that we must continue to affirm that #BlackLivesMatter. But also becuz #DeborahDanner was killed in the community where I was raised. Community filled w/people I know & love.”
Neighbors called 911 to report Danner’s unstable behavior. When police arrived, Danner charged one of them with a baseball bat. She was shot seconds later. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Chief James O’Neill have promised a thorough investigation.
