SAN FRANCISCO — Tim Ryan, radio color analyst for the San Francisco 49ers, received a one game suspension on Wednesday after he denigrated Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson over the air. While yappin’ his beak on KNBR’s “Murph and Mac” sports show on Monday, Ryan told his listeners Jackson is good at faking handoffs because of his “dark skin color with a dark football.” Damn! Jackson, the presumptive league MVP, passed and rushed for over 100 yards in Baltimore’s 20-17 victory on Sunday.

When asked what makes Jackson such an extraordinary runner, Ryan said skin pigmentation has everything to do with it. “He’s really good at that fake,he explained. “But when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing. I mean, you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point, and if you’re a half step slow on him in terms of your vision, forget about it, he’s out of the gate.”

Team officials censured Ryan’s comments then suspended his ass without remuneration. However, many believe he should be fired. “We hold Tim to a high standard as a representative of our organization and he must be more thoughtful with his words,” 49ers officials said in a statement.

“Tim has expressed remorse in a public statement and has also done so with us privately. We know Tim as a man of high integrity and are confident he will grow and learn from this experience.”

Ryan rued his grammar in a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I regret my choice of words in trying to describe the conditions of the game,” he said. “Lamar Jackson is an MVP-caliber player and I respect him greatly. I want to sincerely apologize to him and anyone else I offended.”

Should Ryan’s comments be construed as racist?

Does he deserve to keep his job?

  1. What’s inappropriate about it? It’s fucking true. The color of the ball, his skin tone, and the dark hue of the jersey could buy valuable milliseconds of reaction time.

What a stupid statement to make in today’s environment. We’ve had black running backs running play action for years, and noone thought to say something this stupid about them. Anything to discredit the competition after they beat you fair and square. He did it to himself if he gets fired..

  3. Jerry Goldsmith

I said the same exact thing to myself cuz I couldn’t tell if he was handed the ball off or not and then I thought well if we had a white quarterback or a white running back then you would just have to watch the white player because then you would be able to tell right away who had the ball because it would stand out that’s wasn’t a racial comment I swear I was thinking the same exact thing and I’ve never been Prejudiced a day in my life in what quarter was he supposed to have said that ? And if you think that’s a racial comment then that’s the same as saying that he’s only good cuz he’s black .

  4. Noting wrong with Ryan said, it is true.

  5. Terminate his ASS!!!!!!!!

  6. I’m a black man myself and I don’t have a problem with the comments said by Tim. It’s not like he was dropping N words he was just saying the obvious and trying to explain why the defense can’t see the ball.

  7. Really? It’s kinda true . Quit being so damn sensitive

  8. Johnny Herrera

It’s ridiculous that he only got suspended for a game. If the 49ers really cared about his comments they should have suspended him for the remainder of the season.

  9. Lol the Lamar Jackson Haters went from “He will fail at QB he should be a RB/WR” to “He’s only good because you cant see the ball over his dark skin”

  10. “White uniform with that white skin and this white snow, he’s practically invisible out there!” Lmaooo

  11. The average IQ of an NFL fan is pretty low ..

  12. I mean, he isn’t wrong… His choice of words, sure, but it is very much an accurate description.

  13. You cant say dark skin any more? Does he not have dark skin?

  14. Good God! So absolutely ridiculous. Nothing offensive in what he said.

  15. Most black Qb’s are good for a year or two then go back to being average once teams figure out how to stop them from running with the ball. Then there forced to throw more from the pocket which there not great at doing. Great example is Patrick Mahomes, last season he wins the MVP and once teams figured out how to contain him, his numbers steadily declined. He currently has 20 passing Td’s, with only 166 rushing yds, 1 td, with 4 games remaining. Cam Newton is another who won an MVP, was a dynamic runner and now hes a nobody. Of course I’m going to be targeted as a racist, but I’m not at all and clearly pointing out the facts? It is a fact that most black QB’s are dynamic runners, but not great at staying in the pocket and throwing the ball.

  16. White males have an advantage of NOT getting women pregnant because their penis is so small and tiny. White women love BBC. White males can’t seem to SATISFY white women.

  17. 90caliber Macher

At first black quarterbacks weren’t welcome in the NFL. Now they’re saying black quarterbacks have natural camouflage that gives them an advantage. Jeez…

  18. those who are too young to remember Jimmy the Greek ABC sportscaster when he said “black athletes are superior because of slavery genetically over white athletes”
He never worked again in broadcasting

  19. please fire this racist immediately

  20. IF IT WASN’T FOR WHITE PEOPLE THERE WOULDN’T B MILLIONAIRE FOOTBALL PLAYERS. WHO DO YOU THINK HIRES THEM. YAWL STUPID!!

  21. Alvin Nwaokike

Tomorrow he will apologize and tell y’all he got some Dark skinned friends, and he ain’t Racist. Smdh!!!

  22. 🤔… dark skin, dark football and dark uniform
… white people say the dumbest things…

  23. WTF the ball is reddish brown his uniform is black & his skin brown a different color than the football. He’s an idiot. I think he said it because he’s a QB not many in the league. They can’t just be talented it’s cause of his skin color. Richard Sherman agreed and defended Tim Ryan’s assessment because he knows him and says he’s a nice guy. Another idiot . Just because u know someone and they are nice to I doesn’t mean they feel or act that way toward others.

  24. Plenty of white quarterbacks are good at that fake as well otherwise the fake would have been retired some time ago.

  25. His comment was part jealousy, part “in his feelings” because his team lost, and part envy because not one QB who looks like him will EVER be as good as Lamar Jackson.

  26. Don’t talk about my QB!!!!

  27. I couldn’t see the ball either 😂😂

  28. Joshua d'Estoville

Looks as though dermatology will soon be a thing of the past…

  29. I’m lost. That wasn’t an insulting. He stating facts about what he was seeing on screen. This is dumb! Let that man go back to work! Wait for something real to happen black people! 🙄🙄

  30. Jonathan Montez

Tim Ryan said he was just really good at the fake & I think the whole skin color thing was more so about that particular game.

  31. A Jimmy “The Greek” situation, he got fired for say something like that, in reference to Bo Jackson being a big running back that can run so fast.

  32. Ryan’s statement is plain! Plain … boring! When playing D a half step matters! The man has dark skin … the ball is brown … the uniform is dark … with the degree of detail that NFL teams use for an advantage, the FACTS that Ryan mentioned, that the QB’s skin is darker is “bad” is SO overly SJW. Sad!

  33. Theoriginal thinker

First time I’ve heard this. I’m black, and I found myself simultaneously laughing and feeling sick to my stomach. People mad about THIS!? These days, you have people waiting with bated breath to find something racist to bitch about.

  34. Lamar Jackson has combined the Quarterback and Halfback positions to create a whole new paradigm…the Eighthback position.
