ATLANTA — After facing stiff competition from prepossessing popsies worldwide, South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe on Sunday at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta — becoming the first black winner in 8 years. The 26-year-old beauty queen subjugated 89 contestants, finishing ahead of runner-ups Miss Mexico [Sofia Aragon] and Miss Puerto [Rico Madison Anderson]. “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” said Zozibini. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”

Donning a green and gold blazer, Steve Harvey hosted the pageant for the fifth time and, reminiscent of the debacle in 2015 when he announced the wrong winner, the 62-year-old comedian screwed up again. Steve said Miss Philippines won the costume contest. But the aspirant standing next to him was Miss Malaysia who alertly grabbed the mic and said, “It’s not Philippines; it’s Malaysia.” A frustrated Steve retorted, “I just read that in the teleprompter. Y’all got to quit doing this to me. I can read.”

Earlier in the competition, Zozibini was asked, “What is the most important thing you should be teaching young girls today?” Her response was leadership. “It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time … because of what society has labeled women to be,” Zozibini explained.

“I think we are the most powerful beings in the world, and that we should be given every opportunity, and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space.”

Was Zozibini your choice for Miss Universe?

Which contestant is most beddable?

Is it time to replace Harvey as host?

  8. Certainly doesn’t look like a Miss Universe.
    The panel need spec savers.
Completely against giving the crown to someone who looks like a man.
The woman next to her looks more stunning.
Coming from a political background looks like a illuminati set up – someone out there has lost a bet big money.
No way would such a face win a pageant lol

  11. Holy shit mexico had it we had it ….

  12. Many of these ladies are american or Australian. Like Miss Nigeria, Miss El Salvador, Miss Puerto Rico & Miss Albania are born and raised in the US. Miss Thailand and Miss Indonesia are born and raised in Australia. I don’t think it is fair since these contestants don’t fully represent their countries. These girls just come for the title and just back to their regular life’s in their home countries.

  25. Philip Robertson III

OMG…. Can someone just tell me why this moron is still hosting this universe show? 😳

  26. Chakat Nightsparkle

STOP USING The Phrase Miss Universe. ITS NOT UNIVERSE It would be Miss Earth. Once we find Life in other Places Other then Earth. Who are able to Compete. THEN ONLY THEN can we call it Miss Universe. Otherwise saying its Miss Universe is Wrong and would call it Fraud by saying it is Miss Universe.

  27. 😲They crowned a boy…..😂😂😂😂

  28. Yes queen you DESERVE ITTTT😭💕

  29. It wasn’t Steve’s fault because he was reading what’s on the teleprompter. The organization should be the one responsible for the confusion. Because they asked Miss Malaysia to show up when they already knew it was really Miss Philippines who won.

  30. The competition was rigged. The winner is a transgender. They fixed the competition to paved the way for the first transgender beauty queen. They purposely did it to change the game like they said.

  31. I know I might sound biased because I’m Mexican but Mexico should’ve won….. miss universe looks like slim from 112

  32. Wilfredo A Nunez Pacheco

I was rooting for Miss Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 but South Africa deserved it so much! 👑

  33. Ndaitavela Hamupembe
