CHARLOTTE — The adventures of Pookie & Ray Ray continue. Malek Crosby, 20, was thrown in the slammer after he murdered his co-worker, 26-year-old Jaselyn Lanae Horne, because he didn’t want to wash dishes. The femicide transpired around 5 a.m. on March 17, 2024 at the Cook Out restaurant at 4321 Sunset Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. The greasy fast food joint had already closed for the night, and employees were busy cleaning up so they can clock out and go home. According to reports, Jaselyn and Malek had contretemps over who should wash dishes. As the argument intensified, Jaselyn grabbed a dirty pan and threw it at Malek — striking him in the face. Malek then pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the single mom five times in front of co-workers. Jaselyn was pronounced dead at the scene. She leaves behind a 5-year-old son.
“That’s my firstborn. She was my firstborn,” Jaselyn’s father, John Horne, told reporters. “She had a son and she wanted to provide for him, and she did provide… He doesn’t even understand what’s going on right now.” Malek was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. But he copped a plea with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter even though he brought a gun to work, which means the crime was premeditated. So, instead of receiving a life sentence, Malek is serving 4 to 6 years in prison.

“No more bloodshed needs to happen,” John said.
“No more genocide. No more of our youth dying senseless deaths. We got to stop killing each other. We need to stop it.”
Social media reaction was vicious.

OMGGGGG, that 911 call was the worst everrrrr. How in the hell they are having a hard time locating the address of the restaurant. Beyond ridiculous and it took too long for them to inform him that police has been dispatched definitely needs to be fired and continuous training needs to be done more frequently and what happen to the urgency to dispatch EMS and police to the restaurant 😡😡

911 dispatchers have questions they’re required to ask. They aren’t allowed to deviate because the questions are STUPID and often irrelevant. They can’t just say ‘we can skip this’ and it makes them sound dumb.

The person hired as a supervisor did not perform the duties of a supervisor. Supervisors should be trained in Conflict resolution. The coworker did more than the supervisor! My heart goes out to her son.
