NEW YORK — Law enforcement officials in New York are searching for answers after CUNY security guard Rondell Goppy, 41, lost his life in a gunfight with NYPD officers Christopher Wells and Joseph Murphy. The shootout transpired around 12:45 p.m. on November 24, 2020 at Rondell’s home in Springfield Gardens. It was also captured on police body cam. All hell broke loose when Rondell’s wife, 41-year-old Sharon Goppy, walked into the 105th Precinct in Queens Village to report that her husband whooped her ass during an argument. Sharon claimed she caught Rondell cheating and he choked her. Wells and Murphy took Sharon’s report, then escorted her back home to pack her sh*t. Rondell wasn’t there at the time and their children were in school. “Oh, he’s coming,” Sharon told the officers. Moments later, Rondell barged through the front door with a .40 caliber Glock handgun and opened fire — striking Wells in the right thigh and Murphy in both hands; shattering a finger.
Sharon fled to the basement.
Despite gettin’ hit, both cops returned fire. Wells unloaded nine rounds and Murphy fired 15. Rondell was hit multiple times in the torso and died at the scene. “This video is chilling and difficult to watch, but it makes one thing clear: Police Officers Wells and Murphy saved lives,” PBA President Patrick Lynch told reporters. “They saved the lives of that domestic violence victim and her children, and they saved each other’s lives – all because they had the training, skill and courage of New York City police officers. For anyone questioning whether we need police officers responding to these types of situations, this video is the answer.”
Quondam Mayor Bill de Blasio echoed a homogeneous sentiment.
“They saved that woman’s life,” he said.
I want to be crystal clear. Because these officers were there, that woman is alive.”
Investigators said Rondell had a history of beating Sharon’s ass.
Their residence was the site of four prior domestic violence calls.
Rondell organized a charity for domestic violence victims prior to crashing out.

Holy shit. I was not expecting that! Thank goodness those officers were there-that scumbag would never have given her a chance. Just another example of how an order of protection is not enough for DV victims. Thank goodness she also saw him coming because that split second gave the officer with his back to the door a chance to turn around. So glad the officers and victims survived and now her and her children don’t ever need to worry about this guy again. So freaking scary.

The officers taking the time to go in with her saved her life. If more officers took domestic violence this seriously how many lives would be saved. The officers took on danger straight away! Outstanding job by those officers, they responded quickly!
