Landlord kills two tenants ’cause they didn’t pay rent

WILSON — “🎵Ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent.🎵” Donta Maurice Chestnut, 39, was thrown in the slammer after he smoked two of his tenants, 44-year-old Natasha Latrice Sutton and her son, 21-year-old Avantae Pender, because they didn’t pay the rent. The bloodbath transpired around 2 p.m. on September 15, 2025 in Wilson, North Carolina. According to reports, Donta was on the cusp of bankruptcy, and he was crackhead desperate for cash💰. Natasha was four months in arrears on her rent. So Donta showed up at her crib and threatened to evict her ass if she didn’t pay. Avantae, 46-year-old Tyron Sutton, and 37-year-old Tiffany Fogg were also in the home. When Natasha reminded Donta that he needed a sheriff to effectuate an eviction, the slumlord pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Natasha, Avantae and Tyron multiple times.
Natasha and Avantae died.
Tyron survived.
Tiffany wasn’t shot, but she suffered a few minor injuries during the mayhem.
Donta was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. His wife, Tiffany, was also busted for being an accomplice. Nobody saw this coming. Donta is the director of “Our Wilson” – a nonprofit mentorship organization for young boys. He also ran for city council in 2023. Prior to the shooting, Donta advocated against gun violence and crimes against women. “A man that mentors children snapped today and shot three people,” a neighbor told reporters.
Tekeya Farmer, the mother of one of Donta’s mentees, believes he was provoked.
“Donta Chestnut is a good person to our community. He gives back to our kids,” Tekeya said.
This doesn’t sound anything like his character at all. It’s not in his nature. If anything, he acted in self-defense.”
Natasha’s daughter, Tateanna Rogers, still can’t believe her mom and brother are gone.
“Your heart is just ripped out of your chest,” Tateanna bemoaned.
“I called my mama’s phone. I called my brother and nobody answered. And then, I called my cousin, and she told me something had happened to my mom and my brother, and that’s when I found out that they were gone.”
“Our Wilson” taught boys everything from financial literacy to automobile maintenance.
Donta’s contributions will be certainly missed.
“He comes to this community all the time, to give back to his community, clean up the yards, help the old people out, people who battle drug addiction, everything,” Tekeya said.
“He saved a lot of lives.”

This Donta fellow seemed like such a stand-up guy, mentoring kids and running for office. One minute hes cleaning up yards, the next hes pointing a firearm. Guess the stress of evictions and maybe not getting enough claps led to a mental health breakdown. Poor Natasha, losing her mom and brother – her heart is truly ripped out. Though, maybe Donta acted in self-defense? He did have that gun. Anyway, his contributions to financial literacy and car maintenance will be missed, unless he takes those skills to the penitentiary. Evicting someone and ending up with a first degree murder charge? He really showed these kids what happens when you dont pay rent… or taxes, I guess.
