K-State coach Klieman had meltdown after tough loss

SALT LAKE CITY — Football is a brutal gladiator sport where torn ligaments, broken bones and Toradol injections are the norm. That’s why losing is such a bitch. Scholarships and remuneration mean diddly squat on the gridiron. Nobody understands that more than Kansas State Wildcats head coach Chris Klieman who had an emotional meltdown after his team choked in Saturday’s 51-47 loss to the 12th ranked Utah Utes. K-State, a sizable underdog, blew a 12-point lead with 7 minutes left despite racking up almost 500 yards rushing. It’s been a season full of disappointment for K-State, the preseason favorite to win the Big 12. The Wildcats are in 9th place with a pitiful 5-6 record. Many fans and media members want Klieman terminated, bringing him to tears. “I’m heartbroken for the kids and for the loss,” a lachrymose Klieman, 58, told reporters at his postgame press conference. “But it’s one of the greatest efforts I’ve been a part of… And it’s hard to say this because we lost the game.
We’re down so many players. I know a lot of people thought we’d come down here and lay down, and that maybe the kids have cashed it in ‘cuz I’ve heard it enough. I’ve heard I’ve cashed it in. I’ve heard the players cashed it in. Um, we need to get new leadership here. We need to get new players, new coaches. I’m tired of it. I got to be honest with you. I’m tired of it.”
“I’ve given my freakin’ ass life for this place for 7 years,” Klieman continued. “I’ve given everything for 7 years. And I think I deserve a little respect. Dude, I’m frustrated like everybody else. But I love those kids. I’ll go to freaking battle with those kids any day. [Utah] is a top 10 team in the country, one of the best offenses in the country and one of the best defenses in the country [and] we rushed for 472 yards on ’em because we told the guys we were going to commit to running the football.
“And we told the guys to buy into it, believe in it [because] we are running the football against these guys ‘cuz nobody’s tried it like we’re going to try it. And the kids bought into it. Kids don’t buy into it if they’ve given in. Kids don’t buy into it if they’re halfway out the door. Our kids bought into it. And we stuffed it down their throat the entire game running the football and we lost.
“And I’m crushed because of that. And I’m going to stand up here with freaking pride and say we battled our ass off against a really good team and I’m crushed we lost the football game.”
Klieman was consoled by athletic director Gene Taylor who gave him a warm embrace before saying, “You ain’t going anywhere, brother.”
Social media reaction was cold-blooded.
One commenter wrote, “Well if that’s your everything, we need someone new because a shitty record won’t cut it, especially with the expectations we had.”
Another chimed in with, “Welcome to big-time football coach. You’re making $5 million a year. At this level, it’s about getting wins. If you want respect, buy a dog.”
A third person added, “I am sick of the f*cking gaslighting of the fanbase. Grow up coach! Can’t take the criticism, resign!!!”

Coach we love you man, it’s not easy in this age. This guy is real, honest and takes accountability. Ws and Ls matter but that changes year to year in the transfer portal he is still a winning coach. Get a grip wildcat nation we have to support someone who loves the university

This is the business. The pay reflects that it is an extremely results based and public job. There are definitely crazies but much of the criticism is fair. If he can’t handle it he needs to move on to something else.
The coach was gutless. The Refs stole the game from his kids and he said nothing. Maybe he was in on it.
And yet….we took a sack on a CALLED PASS PLAY on 1st & 10 up 3 with 2:47 to play?!!! How can coaching malpractice like that be excused or respect given when you literally piss a win away…you consumed a whoppin 10 seconds of the clock on that series, it’s coaching malpractice!
This team hasn’t quit on coach or playing for the program. Things gotta change in different areas this offseason and I believe coach Klieman will make a concerted effort to make the changes this offseason. Disappointing season with all the high expectations coming in.

Listen I respect his passion but it’s been one of the most disappointing teams in college football and he’s been out coached in almost every close game he’s been in.
He’s bragging about Utah. What about the rest of the season? Letting Army bend us over? Baylor? Barely beating an FCS team?

Division 1 big conference head football coach is the most stressful job, it’s close to a 24/7 365 days job with zero appreciation. Your constantly recruiting replacing players with the portal development of players and staff, and building a program from inside out ex new stadium new locker rooms to compete.
The Midwest is so hard to recruit the best players. It’s stressful job not doubt. But unfortunately people are going to judge you on wins and losses.
Kansas state fans are delusional and think they’re gonna win a natty with an 8m roster and a 5.5m head coach. They criticized Collin Klein’s play calling a few years ago but now think he’s the savior. Kstate is probably around 50th on roster expenditure and they’re disappointed in not making the playoffs. Avery Johnson is the greatest qb kstate has ever had and everyone wants him gone. Absolute clown fans. Anyways, go cats.
“Fight…” We all remember the Fightin’ Family atmosphere Chris promoted where his QB’s dad and brother took it into the parking lot after losing in Ireland. That set the tone for the season – that was the New Leadership for this season. How’d that turn out?
Here’s my problem The team doesn’t show up and play their heart out. If they played with their heart and tried most these games and cared that they were on the field representing K-State they wouldn’t be five and six. I don’t care if K-State loses I care if the kids play their asses off and try. I much rather watch a early Snyder team that was giving everything they could then these guys. And those guys weren’t paid. Just care and try.

The current generation of sports fans are the worst and that’s the problem. So many seem entitled, whiny and the instant a team loses they want to fire the coaches despite years of winning. Real fans don’t turn on a team and coaches the minute they lose. Fans also wanted Will Howard out and Avery Johnson in and turns out Howard is better than Avery in all the ways that matter when it comes to winning championships. Put Avery Johnson at Ohio State he’s not winning the natty.
Chris Klieman is a solid coach, although he has never brought K-State to the heights that Bill Snyder had.

The program has been on a downward trajectory since mid season last year. The coaching staff has failed the last two years. They’re falling behind their competition.
My only thing is………….you’re making several million $$$/year. You damn well should be giving your friggin’ life to this program.
