ATL — “🎵Fight the power! We’ve got to fight the powers that be!🎵” The NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus are calling on negro athletes to eschew collegiate programs in the SEC and ACC, mainly because it’s their assertion Black voting rights are restricted in southern red states. The NAACP launched its “Out of Bounds” campaign on Tuesday to exhort black athletes, their families, alumni and fans to “withhold athletic and financial support” from public universities in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Mississippi and Texas because they “have moved to limit, weaken or erase Black voting representation” with plans of gerrymandering Black congressional areas. NAACP President Derrick Johnson held a news conference outside the U.S. Capitol where he accused the aforementioned states of “seeking to reinstitute a sharecropping reality” by recruiting blacks to play for flagship universities while curbing “our ability to elect candidates of our choice.”
Johnson might be on to something. If properly executed, a boycott could certainly work. That’s because clueless black athletes are worth billions in terms of television revenue, shoe deals and NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness). The bottom line is athletic brothas are fundamental commodities in the mold of oil, gas, livestock and grains. “Black athletes should not be asked to generate wealth, prestige, and power for state institutions while those same states strip political power from Black communities,” Johnson said.
“We will fight with all we have in solidarity with the Congressional Black Caucus to ensure that we have representation, or if we don’t, we will withhold the talent that plays on the football field or on the basketball court, be they male or female.”
Me, personally, I don’t think the boycott will work even though it would benefit my Kansas State Wildcats and other Big 12 schools.
Athletes want remuneration and if a southern school offers more NIL mazuma💰, they’re going — plain and simple.
That said, I’d like to see the protest expanded to address a paucity of negroes in key positions of scholastic leadership (i.e., head coaches, athletic directors and chancellors).

We became aware of the history of America and the ugly truths of its history, and where we stood in that history. It is beyond time our youth of today grasp a full understanding of the issues we lived with and fought against.
How about boycotting the NAACP. It’s 2026 and the still have colored in the name. Why should an athlete give up their dreams because Negros won’t get off their behinds and vote. I have a question for everyone who is ok with what the NAACP is asking these babies to do. My nephew has just received a full ride athletic scholarship To The university of Ole Miss. Now with that being said can I get a legally binding document signed from each one of you stating that if he boycott Ole Miss you will pay his college tuition for the next four years? My Nephew don’t wanna hear a bunch of cross talking. A simple yes or no will do. If not, I suggest you all leave these babies alone and allow them to attempt to change their family lives for the better.
