KANSAS CITY — “🎵It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.🎵” Jason Whitlock and sports fans around the globe 🌎 are in mourning after former TV host James “Uncle Jimmy” Dodds was Ctrl-Alt-Deleted by three teenagers over a damn dispute. He was 64. The fatality transpired on June 7, 2026 at his residence in the 3000 block of 82nd Terrance in Kansas City, Kansas. Uncle Jimmy, who starred alongside Jason on the Fox Sports television show “Speak For Yourself” and his podcast “Fearless,” got into an argument with Aaron Johnson, Mark Elliott Nash Jr., and Marquel McGee — all of ’em 18 — and they effectuated reprisal by shooting him dead. Michelle Karanja, Uncle Jimmy’s landlord, said he was sedentary in his vehicle behind a Chevy Tahoe when he was shot. “My husband was home working on the deck, and he heard three gunshots go off, and he started looking around for it,” Michelle told reporters. “And then soon after, the ambulance and everything showed up.”

Aaron, Mark and Marquel absconded to Newton, Kansas where they were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. They’ll spend their youth in the stinkin’ penitentiary. “Some of his family members knew the individuals. So, it stemmed from a disagreement,” said Kansas City, Kansas Police Chief Karl Oakman. “But, once again, we’re seeing people’s inability to control their anger.”

On a recent episode of Fearless, Jason recounted how he joined forces with Uncle Jimmy.

“For 20, maybe 25 years, Uncle Jimmy was a huge part of my life,” he said.

“He was not always Uncle Jimmy. He started out as Jimmy the Freak in Kansas City. He was someone that in the late 1990s, early 2000s, he was a caller into my morning radio show on Sports Radio 1510… He would call in and he was hilarious as a caller to my show and he was so hilarious on my radio show in Kansas City that eventually I reached out to him and said, ‘Hey man, who are you? You call in, you crack some funny jokes, you do some funny impressions,’ and the next thing you know, I was helping orchestrate his calls into my radio show and that started a friendship.”

In addition to making mothaf*ckas laugh, Uncle Jimmy served 15 years as a deputy with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

“During his tenure (at the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department) he worked closely with the juvenile detention center and was a strong advocate for youth,” said Areiona King, Jimmy’s daughter.

“He went out of his way to speak life into them to take a different path.”
