Barbers losing customers ’cause haircuts expensive

Barber goes broke.
Blog King, Mass Appeal
ATL — “This is the barbershop!” If you’re thinkin’ about pursuing a métier in the hair care industry, better think again. That’s because a viral video shows a pissed-off barber admitting he’s having a hard time finding customers. Barbershops 💈 used to be therapeutic, a place where fellas can talk sh*t about any and every thang while gettin’ groomed at an affordable cost. Now it appears barbers have priced out the clientele. Haircuts used to cost $10 to $20. Today, neighborhood barbershops charge between $50 to $300. Yikes! Inflation is a bitch! It’s simply cheaper to visit Walmart, buy some clippers and cut your own damn hair. Not to mention beta males are patronizing beauty salons in lieu of barbershops to get hair weave, braids and GLH-9 spray-on coiffures. “So I’ve been in a barbershop going on two months now and here’s a little update,” the barber said.
I’m not going to lie and act like I didn’t know this was going to happen. But bro, it is definitely hard. It has been super slow. It’s days where I might go five hours without getting a haircut, six hours. Maybe the whole time I’m in the shop I don’t get no haircut. Some days I might get three. I might get one, or I might get zero.”

What’s sad is that n*gga has done everything from a marketing standpoint to increase business. Yet, his chairs are empty. “I’m out here passing out business cards,” he vented. “I’m putting it in somebody’s windshield or I’m putting it in somebody’s hand. I’m passing out business cards, bro. And, I’m sticking flyers up. And, I’m posting content. And, I’m trying to get referrals. But, still, it has been slow. I did the math. All I need is at least 50 to 60 clients who come in twice a month and I’m set. And people tell you it takes a year for you to get that. You know what I’m saying? For you to get consistent clientele… But the reality is these folks [are] not going to come in.”
Business is so non-existent, the barber is contemplating shutting down the shop to start a new career.
“I’m not gone lie. I don’t know what to do,” he said.
“But I’m not finna sit around. I’m low-key thinking about going to get my Cybersecurity Certification. But if anybody has any advice… please let me know.”
Social media reaction was hilarious.
One commenter wrote, “Y’all charge too damn much. $60 for a cut just for it to grow back in a week😂😂😂.”
Another chimed in with, “Brothas get an online certificate to be a barber and think they just earned a PHD or a Doctorate from a prestigious college😂.”
A third person added, “I charge $40 a cut and $50 with the beard. People always like to bring up, ‘Man I remember when haircuts were $10 to $20.’ Yeah, I remember when gas was $1.50 a gallon and rent was $600 a month. Everything has doubled or tripled.”
Do you feel sorry for barbers?
Is it time for them to lower their prices?
Watch homeboy bitch and complain, then watch a customer cuss out barbers nationwide.

Shit cost an arm and a leg. No thank you 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
If this muthafucka cut hair like he speaks then fuck that. I dont want no slow ass haircut. 😂
These fools be trying to charge 50-100 plus tip per cut like if it doesn’t grow back within 3-4 days
I’m bald, haven’t been to a barber in a decade!😅😅
That’s what these clowns 🤡 get. I don’t care what marketing you do. People gonna look at a 300% price jump and say fuck it.
I personally don’t feel bad at all for these barbers . They over priced themselves and now want to cry about it . 😂🤣😅
60 dollars for a haircut is nasty work
The bigger problem now other than cost is appointments. You never needed an appointment B4. It was straight walk in. Everyone is trying to book the same hours. People work.
These dudes charging $50 for a cut and crying about not having clients.
They want to live a luxurious lifestyle off cutting men’s hair, its time for them to get a wakeup call.
Many of today’s barbers have put themselves out of business. When they were charging $20 they were cutting 2 to 3 customers per hour. Then they got this crazy idea to charge $50+ per customer and the shop is empty most of the day.
Barbers have priced out the average customer. Haircuts used to be $15 to $20 when I was growing up. Now you have barbers charging $50 for cut. Like what? Barbers should learn to charge by the volume of the hair they’re cutting or the complexity of the haircut. If you’re out here charging a flat rate for a lineup at $50, you’re out of your goddamn mind! It’s a dying field to go into now that everyone can just learn how to cut their own here by watching a few YouTube videos. I’m not a license barber, but I learned how to cut my own hair and I cut my own family member’s hair now at no cost! It’s just a hobby for me.
Learned how to cut my hair this year , best decision
Being a Barber is a diva’d out profession now.
I shaved my shit off a long time ago. I’ll be damned if I pay $100 for a cut.
Barbers did this to themselves and I don’t feel bad at all for them 🤷🏾♂️ to the men: learn how to cut your own hair. Been doing it since the pandemic. I never went back. Not even once
lol if you charging me that kind of money, you better shampoo and condition my shit lol
Years ago My barber went from charging me 20, to 25, to 30 THEN $40. Ever since then I went and spent $300 on a clipper set. Never been in a shop since. Best investment ever.
Once i learned how to fade myself.. it was over. Aint been to barber in about 8 years
Once upon a time men came in and got there haircut now them/they gets a appointment to get there hair done like a woman
Proud member of the self cut club. Literally saved myself many thousands over the years.
Went to the barbershop and saw $40 to $60 on the window..I said nahhhh I’ll pass
When I was a teenager, haircuts were $10 plus a tip. In my 20s it went from around $15 to $20 and now I go for haircut like 1 time a month, sometimes I let my dad cut my hair.
I walked into an empty shop just to be told to make an appointment, I never went back
If you pay 100 or 60 or 50 or 40 for a haircut, you are a fool 😂 no way, even if they come to the house, you crazy! Go natural 😂😂😂😂
$30 for a small kids haircut is a scam for a adult person $60 is a robbery
Beauty salons are taking their business by braiding and weaving men’s 😙 hair.
I am a licensed Barber. The game changed when these new school barbers started cutting hair for a hustle. They can’t even cut. They are terrible. No barberskills, no customer service, using sprays, lining pencils. I’m from the old school and I had a shop so I know how the game goes, but these new school barbers are terrible. I’m in my 50s, so I say old school barbers can relate to what I’m talking about. This is terrible that they treat you like a hustle.
I just spent 60 dollars on a haircut kit. I spent an hour cutting my own hair and it came out nice. Now I know how to do it and I will get better at it. 60 bucks for a one time purchase (maybe a new kit every 15 years) vs 50 bucks every time. No brainer. And if I mess up, I wear a hat anyway so I can cover it up until I can fix it again.
It’s messed up to some people because some jobs require you to have short hair (at least for the men) and going bald isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
$300 for a cut … 😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s $100 to see a doctor at Urgent Care. No way will I pay $100 for a haircut.
I’ve been giving myself a baldie for the longest, haircuts got out of control.
The problem is, they feel because of the economy, they should be able jack prices as they please, but ya’ll not in the line of work where those prices makes sense to the average consumer. You not doing nothing overly special even adding all these extra grooming services. At most $25. 4 customers = $100. 10+ customers a day for 5 days will be more than enough to pay your rent and then some. Stop living beyond ya means, or go get a degree
Once again greed destroyed another profession.
When they crossed $50, the writing was on the wall.
Them fools priced themselves out of business
I’m a barber…barbers did it to themselves. Every barber with a license thought they were celebrity barbers. I knew it would happen
That’s the reason I went to Walmart bought my own clippers been cutting my own hair for 10 yrs. At the time I thought $25.00 dollars was too much. Shurly I wouldn’t pay $100.
Barbers charging beautician prices.
I think we should boycott black barbers….😮😮
I been stop going to barbers RAP MUSIC ,, BEING KOOL , DOWN TO EARTH LEFT THE BUILDING, AND THEY SOME NASTY MF !! COMBINE WITH RIP OFF PRICES , BUY CLIPPERS LEARN TO CUT YOURSELF, AN LETS GO FURTHUR , BRING BACK THE BARBER SHOPS , BUT GOOFY HIP HOP BARBERS MUST GO , matbe BARBER SHOPS CAN GET BACK MAKING DECENT MONEY 25$ FOR A CUT ALITTLE TIP , WE KOOL TALK MAN ISH , DEGENERATE HIP HOP BARBER DONT FIT WITH NORMAL FOLK , WE TRYING TO LUVE AN RAISE FAMILY,
I remember I used to get my haircut for 4 dollars
Im a barber and I don’t get out of bed for less than a $100. Yall need to get with the time. My rents went up, my food went up, my electricity bills went up, my gas went up, everything went up and yall expect haircuts to remain the same ???
If I pay $100 he’s going to cut my grass as well.
I CUT MY OWN HAIR AND I ONLY HAVE ONE STYLE AND THAT’S “BALD”
A haircut use to be $10-$15 and you could just walk in and wait in cue for your turn. Fast forward, barbers want north of $80 for a basic haircut. You have to make an appointment (which the barber may still show up late to), and it they’re slow to get the job done. Their greed killed their industry and the barbershop culture which was great for men.
If they tell me over $35 I’m getting up and walking off
My wife has been cutting my hair since 2020. The prices they charge now are crazy ..
I knew it was coming, we are losing yet another industry 😔
