HOLLYWOOD — Dammit Katt Williams! Look what you’ve started. Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique, 56, appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast (the male show with a female moniker) to confabulate the entertainment industry, Taraji P. Henson’s “Color Purple” beef, her upbringing in Baltimore, her “Queens of Comedy” experience, and the many challenges she faced as an African American thespian. Mo’Nique also addressed her clashes with Oprah Winfrey and Lee Daniels, and she said Tyler Perry admitted he got her blacklisted in Hollywood. “Tyler Perry called us up and he said, ‘I can see the pain in you and I can hear it, and I want to let you know that I would never do nothing to hurt you,” Mo’Nique recalled. “But the conversation kept going on, only for Tyler Perry to admit he did start a rumor that I was difficult to work with. He lied.”
Perry’s exaggeration cost Mo’Nique a boatload of mazuma because the aforementioned Daniels offered her a big-time role in the “Empire” TV series only to renege and give it to Taraji. “Cookie from the show ‘Empire,’ I was offered that role,” Mo’Nique recounted. “Now, Taraji tore it up. However, I was offered that. Then [they] called me back and said, ‘Babygirl… you too difficult to work with.”
Mo’Nique, who starred in “Precious,” was blacklisted shortly after winning an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actress” in 2010, and she went more than a decade without a massive payday. Mainly because her husband, Sidney Hicks, is her manager and Winfrey, Daniels and Perry didn’t want to work with him. When Mo’Nique was at her lowest, Kevin Hart swooped in to save the day.
“When my family was up against the wall, Kevin Hart wrote us a check,” she said.
“We’re forever grateful for that.”
But the powers that be told Hart to stay the f*ck away from Mo’Nique and he brushed her off too.

What Monique is talking about happens in work environments in all industries. One manager, one influential colleague, one executive can kill a person’s career. One person in a boardroom, meetings and conversation can cast a shadow on your skills, your credibility, your character. Based off a lie or a mere opinion with no facts to back it up.
