COSTA RICA — “🎵It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.🎵” Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who starred as Theodore Huxtable on the Emmy Award-winning sitcom “The Cosby Show,” has migrated to that big television studio in the sky. Malcolm kicked the bucket during a drowning accident on July 20, 2025 while on a family vacation in Costa Rica. He was 54. The negro thespian was swimming at Playa Grande near the town of Cahuita when a current sucked him deeper into the ocean. Mothaf*ckas at the beach tried to save his ass. But it was to no avail. Malcolm’s cadaver was pulled from the water by a rescue team. Celebrities were quick to react. Bill Cosby, who played Malcolm’s TV dad (Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable), told reporters he was gutted by the “shocking” news of Malcolm’s quietus before recalling his dedication to his craft. “You could depend on Malcolm always … to learn his lines, to gather his character, to come out and be ready,” Bill said. “He was never afraid to go to his room and study.”

Jamie Foxx sent his condolences via Instagram. “Speechless on this one,” he wrote. “Rest in power, my brother.” Beyoncé displayed an image of Malcolm on her website, and wrote, “Rest in power, Malcolm-Jamal Warner. For being a big part of our shared television history. You will be missed.” Morris Chestnut, who starred alongside Malcolm on “The Resident,” also expressed his sympathy online.

“Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner,” he wrote.

Working alongside him on ‘The Resident’ was an honor. He brought so much depth, warmth, and wisdom to every scene and every conversation. One of the nicest in the business. Rest easy, brother. Your legacy lives on.”

Malcolm, a native of New Jersey, started acting at the age of 9 — appearing on shows like “Fame.”

He was a young teen when he joined “The Cosby Show,” which ran from 1984 to 1992.

Malcolm is survived by his wife and daughter.

His mom, Pamela Warner, believes he was murdered.

Malcolm was trying to create positive works that’s portrays a positive view of black people in entertainment, in an industry where they just want to portray them as ghetto stereotype. You were not there nor was I. I’m glad people are asking questions instead of just blindly believing what you are told. We don’t know what happened but something feels fishy.
