‘Good Burger 2’ so damn goofy, it induces laughter

Keenan & Kel return 26 years later/Nickelodeon

Good Burger 2 ain’t half bad.

Blog King, Mass Appeal

HOLLYWOOD — “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?” Last night, yours truly ordered pizza and watched Nickelodeon’s “Good Burger 2” on Paramount Plus starring Keenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Yep, ole Keenan & Kel are still workin’ fast food 26 years later. Lol. The PG cult classic premiered in 1997. Can’t lie, a disaster was expected. But it wasn’t half bad. Certainly better than that “Coming 2 America” debacle on Amazon Prime. Like the first “Good Burger,” the nostalgic sequel is so damn goofy you can’t help but laugh. It’s visibly evident Keenan has aged better than Kel. Both are 45 years old. But the latter looks 60 despite the many layers of makeup sheathing his countenance. Anyway, here’s the synopsis: After inheriting “Good Burger,” Kel was bamboozled into selling the diminutive burger joint to a restaurant honcho (Kurt Bozwell’s sister) who devised a stratagem to have every fast food worker in America fired and replaced with androids.

Ain’t that a bitch?

Keenan & Kel then spend the majority of the film fighting for minimum wage jobs. Remuneration be damned, they believe robots are incapable of preparing greasy-ass burgers better than humans. Kel shocked the hell outta me. The dimwit has a beautiful wife coupled with a tribe of children who are named after condiments. One of the kids is named Ketchup. Another Mayo, etc.

Always thought Kel was too much of a nincompoop to get vulva.

But he’s obviously doing something right.

Cameos were made by Josh Server, 44, Shar Jackson, 47, Lori Beth Denberg, 47, and Carmen Electra, 51.

NBA billionaire Mark Cuban also appears in the film.

Ditto for funk legend George Clinton.

“Good Burger 2” won’t be nominated for Academy Awards.

It’s far from a chef-d’œuvre. As a matter of fact, it’s a little lackluster in spots.

But it’s a decent watch, especially if you ain’t got sh*t else to do.

  1. The movie was horrible nothing like the first one we need the original writers and producers to make a real goodburger 2 it was a circus act and had weirdos in the movie like kai

  2. This movie awakens my inner racism. To me Good Burger 2 feels like SpongeBob SquarePants with black ppl and I hate it!

  3. I really wanted to like this movie but I ended up turning it off halfway through because I didn’t like it 🙁

  4. Kennan is above this at this point of his career. I’m surprised he took this on.

  5. @Couch Critic: This movie wasn’t as good as the first obviously, but it was really funny and an awesome continuation.

  6. I liked it, even though it’s probably nostalgia talking, I did like how they brought back Lori Beth and Josh Server, I kind of wish they did more with them, I guess Lori Neth as a customer might be kind of hard, but they could have done something with Josh Server

  7. I just wished that it was rated R just for us kids who grew up in the 90s and are grown now.

  8. It’s ok to laugh at corny stupid shit. Keenan & Kel don’t have to cuss. Kel’s voice gets me every time. 😂😂😂😂

  9. I took it for what it was. I wasn’t expecting anything super fantastic from GB2, but I didn’t hate it. I’ll say the same thing that I said about “Coming 2 America” and “Space Jam Legacy” : There’s always something about the original that makes it a cult classic (generationally quotable, re-re-re-re-watchable, etc.) and these 20+ years straight to DVD-esque sequels just don’t have the same magic. I’d argue that something in me pines for nostalgia (maybe, maybe not) 🤷🏾‍♂️.

That being said, I’ll say this about the original. The older I get, I realized that Good Burger was like a G-rated stoner film. Everything about it is like a super silly fever start to finish lol. I peeped the attempt to create the same vibe, but I’m torn. Like, the Connie Muldoon scene. That’s one of my favorite parts from the original (plus I can recite it by heart lol). Recreating the joke with that sped up audio felt cheap, and what I mean is that it took away from the talent it took to recite it the way she originally did, thus making it not as funny.

The Kel Kimble / orange soda line was a nice little Easter egg.

The shtick with all of Ed’s kids made me laugh lol

The nudge about the old manager (Mr. Bailey) going “Bye Bye Forever” was funny in a “OJ claiming he didn’t do it, but writing a book how he would have done it and gotten away with it” kinda way lol

…so yeah, it’s been a hit and miss for me.

    🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔.5 / 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔

  10. The movie was good but Kennan Thompson acted like he didn’t even want to be there. Made no sense that his child self is more charismatic and funny then his adult self. Kel did a fantastic job! Wish Kennan would have put the same effort in as Kel.

  11. This movie was terrible! It was wayyyy to long lacked story structure and the acting was flat

  12. That’s so funny mark cuban brought good burger when the same week it came out he sold the Mavericks for billions 😂

  13. I watch good burger atleast once a year, grew up watching all that and kenan and kel. This movie was a very good sequel, so happy they didn’t mess it up. Funny and same humor as the first

  14. Even after all these years I’ll never forget in the first movie when the girl Roxanne tries to kiss Ed. The way he says “OH NO” and flips her over his shoulder and onto the floor was hilarious to me 😂

  15. Im 35 and I laughed just as much as i would have if i was still a kid. I know it’s for kids but they should have called it Damn Good Burger😂

  16. Good burger is much like Harold and kumar goes to White Castle, being it became a cult classic that is endlessly watchable.

  17. Long awaited comedy sequels are mostly awful like Zoolander 2 and Dumb and Dumber To. A least this wasn’t awful, it was just average for me and I think a 3rd movie could still turn out pretty good if it happens.

  18. This sequel was definitely not bad and i hate reboots and long awaited sequels.

  19. 2nd act really shit the bed. Living room Crowd took off, going from 6 people, to 1 viewer by the end.

  20. I thought it was actually decent!
I’d say a 7.3/10, the original for me is about a 9.5/10 tho!

  21. I don’t even get the appeal of the first movie, it was just as boring and unfunny as this, the people calling the original “beloved” are clearly blinded by nostalgia, it sucked then and it sucks now.

  22. I am watching this and I gotta say, this is a sequel! Like let’s be real the first movie is silly dumb fun and that’s what we came for! I love the dumb humor in that and I love the dumb humor in this. It doesn’t feel like it’s insulting the viewer or younger viewers and gash darn it, Ed is lovable in this, it’s like Ed from Ed, Edd, n Eddy, a lovable oaf. Kel Mitchell is a great comedic actor as well, like why couldn’t him and Kenan both get roles on SNL?! Kel please get into more movies and shows, I know you’re a youth pastor, but we need you back! Also this movie is just funny, don’t care what nostalgia critic thinks, this is a good movie!

  23. Anyone who is a real and loyal fan of the original will admit this sequel sucked. Hollywood failed one more time 🤦🤦

  24. I went in to this film with low expectations. As someone who enjoys the first film a lot, I just couldn’t bring myself to like this one. With the Easter eggs and references to the first film, it’s almost like the movies laughing at you, like it’s saying, oh you remember how funny and good a lot of these elements from the first film are?! It’s like none of those elements were here and instead were just thrown in to give people member berry syndrome. Also with Keenan and Kel, even though they’re trying to make this film good, there were times were they just seemed bored and almost uninvested in performing these characters, especially with the ending where it feels like Kel was just rushing to get the film done. Also, if this film is set 5 years after the first one, why are Pete Davidson, Gronk and other modern actors and celebrities in this film?! It just felt like a soulless cash grab that you literally can skip and just watch the original one.

  25. Bro 😂 This is why the film got kicked out of theaters before getting there 😂😂 Good Burger is Bad Burger here…its slightly, slightly tolerable at times but for the most part this movie is a sequencing and script disaster.. The plot barely stuck together and the villain didn’t even feel legitimate

  26. It was hot garbage and I’m gen z the old good burger was funny this shits cringe for Fortnite kids

  27. Now this is a Nostalgia Movie done right. I wasn’t to sure about this sequek when it was announce, but they managed to capture the original pretty good.

  28. @Michael Vairo: Probably done so for budgeting purposes, putting a film in theaters involves more marketing & advertising

  29. Yeah…this movie leaned way too heavy into the wacky antics in the 1st. It did have a few funny moments but the pacing was bad, struggled to get through it honestly.

  30. Felt like they tried to shove as many cameos as they could on screen as quickly as possible.. I shut it off after about 45 mins
