AMADOR COUNTY — When chasing a phallus goes tragically wrong. Law enforcement officials at the Mule Creek State Prison are under fire after inmate David Brinson, 54, asphyxiated his lonely wife, 62-year-old Stephanie Dowells, during a conjugal visit. The femicide transpired on prison grounds around 2 a.m. on November 13, 2024. According to multiple reports, David — a quadruple-murderer serving 4 life sentences — was clappin’ Stephanie’s cheeks in a secluded area when he choked her as a wanton act of sadism. Only problem is Stephanie blacked out and never regained consciousness. Realizing he f*cked up, David used the visitor’s phone in the common area to alert the guards — claiming Stephanie passed out on her own. Paramedics rushed to her aid and performed CPR. But it was to no avail. Granny was pronounced dead around 3 a.m.

While conducting the autopsy, coroners learned Stephanie didn’t just pass out.

Instead, she was strangled.

As previously mentioned, David is already serving life without parole.

So another sentence means diddly squat.

Family members are pissed.

“How could they just let this happen? I just don’t get it,” Stephanie’s son, Armond Torres, told reporters.

“My mom was just left alone, and she called for help, I’m sure, and there’s nothing she could do. Given the history that this guy has, we kind of wanted to know how is it even possible for them to be unsupervised?”

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said conjugal visits transpire “in private, apartment-like facilities on prison grounds.” They typically last between 30 to 40 hours, there’s no cameras, and the prisoner is required to “present themselves” to authorities at least 4 times within a 24-hour span. Corrections officers do, however, have the autonomy to barge in unannounced but “every effort shall be made to ensure the privacy of the inmate and their visitor(s).”

Relatives said Stephanie ignored a million red flags 🚩🚩🚩, thinking she could fix David.

“They would read the Bible together,” recalled Nataly Jimenez, Stephanie’s daughter-in-law.

“He was in school in there because she was pushing him to try to be this better person.”

Oveta Wilson, Stephanie’s mom, echoed a homogeneous sentiment.

“She was the most giving, kindhearted person,” she bemoaned.

“I would often tell her, ‘Sweetheart, you can’t save the world.’”

Social media reaction was cold-blooded.

One commenter wrote, “I can’t imagine being in my 60s and going to prison to crawl in bed with a murderer🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️.”

Another person added, “Why do people think that someone who killed someone won’t kill you?”

Stephanie was a hairstylist and small business owner.

She’s the second woman at Mule Creek to be murdered during an overnight visit.

Tania Thomas, 47, was also strangled by a convicted murderer.

Stephanie is survived by her two sons and a tribe of grandchildren.

  1. And this is not the first woman to be killed during a visit in that prison.

  2. No death penalty in California. He was already serving 4 life sentences and never getting out. They’ll just tack on another life sentence. Essentially, her death will mean nothing, UNLESS it is used as a catalyst to stop conjugal visits or further limit them. Tacking on another life sentence, for a man who already isn’t getting out, is nothing. The only way her death will negatively affect him, is if the other prisoners target him for ruining all their conjugal visits.

  3. As usual, black killed by another black. As usual, it must be whitey’s fault.

  4. Well When You LUST and Love Pooky. “Play a stupid game, only to win a Stupid Prize”

  5. All these decent men, but she sought out a jail bird, fellas get your passports, most are just like this, condolences,

  6. She’s too old to be so foolish. Your husband is in there for killing 4 people why are you still married and visiting this man? SMH As for her children who want to know why would they leave her alone? Yall just as slow ummmm because that’s her husband.

  7. Just so I got the story right
He’s in prison for killing multiple people and she married him
And he ends up killing her too.
What kind of justice are they looking for?
He’s already serving life in prison.
    Did they not warn her
She took her own life one can say. I’m not being cruel, just stating the facts
Did she think she was special.
    Well anyho that’s my opinion

  8. I have seen many black women talking about God told them. He wouldn’t tell you to sin at all. God hasnt talked to anyone face to face since Moses. These are God’s words in the bible. So who was she talking to? Satan maybe? It definitely wasnt God.

  9. Keep on looking to a god created by white people to keep you safe from evil. The religion itself is based in justified evil

  10. Out of all the men in the world our black women love , submit to and respect convicts , lowlifes and murderers . A good black man can be in your face and they’ll pick him apart call him “ sassy “ disrespect him this shit has to stop . Tired of seeing this shit

  11. Wait…WHY is a prisoner allowed to be on a Dating app… or even have a phone?

  12. She was a pretty, vibrant, and active older woman who looked for love in the wrong place. If she had ventured outside her comfort zone a little bit more she probably would have found love with a man who was equally yoked to her who enjoyed some of the same activities as herself.
