NEW YORK — “Lucy, you got some ‘splainin’ to do!” Residents of the Big Apple 🍎 are in mourning after 27-year-old Shane Tamura killed NYPD officer Didarul Islam and three other people before taking his own life. The killing spree transpired on July 28, 2025 inside a 44-story office building in Midtown Manhattan known as 345 Park Avenue. Shane, a black man donning tactical gear, entered the skyscraper with an M4 carbine (assault rifle). He initially opened fire in the main lobby before taking the elevator to the 33rd floor, where he shot himself in the chest. “He goes up to the 33rd floor and begins to walk the floor, firing rounds as he travels,” said NYPD Commissioner Jennifer Tisch. “One person was struck and killed on that floor. He proceeds down the hallway and shoots himself in the chest.” Mayor Eric Adams said Shane wanted to shoot up the NFL’s offices on levels 5 through 8, but he “mistakenly went up the wrong elevator” and ended up on a higher floor.
“It appears as though he was going after the employees of the NFL,” Mayor Adams said.
One NFL worker was indeed shot, but survived.
Social media reaction was venomous.
One commenter wrote, “After last season’s fixing of games and wokeness, I do not care what happens to the NFL.”
Another chimed in with, “This idiot offed himself over football?”
A third person added, “I played hockey for years and the only time I thought I had CTE was after watching a quarter of the WNBA.”
Shane had a 3-page manifesto in his pocket that expressed grievances with the NFL, claiming he suffered from CTE and the league was culpable even though he “never played in the NFL.” Shane asked that his encephalon be examined and he referred to former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Terry Long who was diagnosed with CTE after he committed suicide by guzzling antifreeze 20 years ago. “Terry Long, football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,” the rambling missive stated.
You can’t go against the NFL. They’ll squash you. Please study [my] brain for CTE. I’m sorry. The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits. They failed us.”
Shane, who was employed as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino, never played professional football.
He did, however, play in high school while attending Granada Hills Charter in Los Angeles where he was described as a standout athlete.
Shane had several run-ins with the law.
His mom called 911 repeatedly, telling cops he threatened to kill himself.
Officer Islam, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, joined the force three and a half years ago.
He’s survived by his pregnant wife and two sons.

How can anyone blame the NFL for someone’s issues who never played in the NFL. CTE can only be diagnosed post mortem. There have been quite a few ex players driven to suicide by this awful condition….always leaving their brain intact for study.

Think about it, pee-wee, middle school, high school… they are or should be carefully monitored by coaches. College, you are trying to make it to NFL – I think the staff do pay attention; however, NFL, it is a fact head injuries are top priority now. We’ve all seen the screwed up players (Hernandez – Patriots). This guy may have had his NFL dream broken for some reason. Mental illness, most likely. They should study this “Shane Tamura”‘s brain. Obviously, he wasn’t smart enough to make it to the NFL offices. Mental health or drugs is my bet. I apologize if I piss anyone off. Everyone in the world knows American football is a violent sport. Nobody forces you to play it. But of course Americans are so entitled that they blame everything for their own life choices. Tell the NFL players who get paid multiple millions each season to stop playing because of CTE and see if they stop playing.
