CORNELIUS — “If I can’t have you, no one can!” Makayla Hooks, 23, was thrown in the slammer after she Ctrl-Alt-Deleted her fiancé, 24-year-old Demetri McGruder, because he dumped her ass. The sanguinary ordeal transpired around 1 a.m. on April 15, 2026 at Oakhurst Village Apartments in Cornelius, North Carolina. According to reports, Demetri — a victim of domestic violence — told Makayla he was sick and tired of being her punching bag so he’s calling off the engagement💍. A bout of contretemps ensued. Demetri yelled something to the effect of, “I’m sick of this sh*t! It’s over bitch!” Shortly after the quarrel reached its cessation, Makayla — who was in the kitchen cooking a steak🥩 — grabbed a knife, waited for Demetri to go to bed, then stabbed him in the torso. When police arrived, the nefarious redbone claimed Demetri attacked her with the blade and she pushed him in self-defense, causing him to stab himself.
But officers knew Makayla was a goddamn lie. That’s because Demetri’s cadaver was riddled with lacerations and bruises — as if he had just been attacked. Not to mention Makayla was arrested for domestic violence 4 weeks prior to the stabbing for beating Demetri’s ass. She was out on bond. In the aftermath of a grand jury indictment, Makayla was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
But the charge has since been upgraded to murder in the first-degree.
Social media reaction was venomous.
One commenter wrote, “Lock her up and throw away the damn key‼️ She’s evil‼️ *TOXIC FEMININITY*🤨🤨🤨🤨”

But, when it’s a man, it becomes a personality audit of every woman ever. Maybe instead of diagnosing entire genders, we could try something radical like… condemning the violence itself.”
Demetri and Makayla appeared to be the perfect couple on social media.
But, behind closed doors, it was absolute hell.

Men can very much be victims. I’m tired of all this abuse. Took me 8 years to leave an abusive relationship and actually stay gone. When people show you who they are believe them the first or at least second time. Pay attention to what they do, not what they say. Actions speak louder than words. Also, the eyes don’t lie. You can tell that something is off about somebody by looking in their eyes…they usually have what is called “crazy eyes.”
