CHICAGO — When living outside your means goes wrong. Twista (né Carl Mitchell) raised eyebrows earlier this week when he pleaded guilty to tax evasion. The “Overnight Celebrity” rapper failed to pay more than $440,000 in delinquent income tax from 2019 to 2023. That’s five years and five counts for a maximum of 5 years in prison. Dayuuummm! Telling you dawg, the IRS ain’t bullsh*ttin.’ Don’t believe me, ask Wesley Snipes and Lauryn Hill. That’s why I pay on time. What’s crazy is Twista had income coming in from streaming revenue, royalties, concert performances and album sales. There’s no excuse for being in arrears. Twista wasn’t blindsided either. He received several warnings to pay up or face incarceration, and he still chose “B.” So what happened to Twista’s cash? Adam Jobes, who works for the IRS, said the 52-year-old lyricist bought 4 luxury vehicles to get some pussy instead of satisfying his debt. Pressure to maintain a public image and opulent lifestyle eventually bit him in the ass.

“Too many honest Americans work hard, pay their taxes, and do the right thing to tolerate someone who believes the rules don’t apply to them,” Adam said. “IRS Criminal Investigation doesn’t care how famous you are. If you willfully refuse to pay your taxes, we’ll follow the money and bring you to justice.” Social media reaction was cold-blooded. One commenter wrote, “If you were warned but still wanted to do what the f*ck you wanted to do, you get no sympathy from me.”

Another chimed in with, “These celebrities didn’t learn a damn thang from Al Capone. They didn’t have enough evidence to charge him for his crimes so they got him on tax evasion.”

A third person added, “Nigga better release another album or his ass is grass.”

Do you feel sorry for Twista?

  1. What kills me is all the fraud that is happening with politicians. Nothing happens to them.

  2. Tax evasion is a serious and jailable offense. Only irresponsible citizens do that. Even the bible commanded us to pay taxes.
