Middle school student dies following a fight with bully

ATLANTA — It’s probably time to start homeschooling our children. Family and friends are in mourning after 12-year-old Jada West passed away following an afterschool fight with a bully. The bout of fisticuffs transpired around 5 p.m. on March 5, 2026 near Jada’s residence in Villa Rica, Georgia — a city roughly 30 miles west of Atlanta. The scuffle was also captured on video. After getting kicked off the bus, Jada and another girl — both students at Mason Creek Middle School — exchanged words. “Everybody know I kick ass, so please don’t start with me,” the bully yelled. Seconds later, Jada and the girl took turns punching each other before falling hard on the pavement. “Oh my God, Jada!” a friend screamed. A hobbled Jada rose to her feet and walked away. But she was rushed to the hospital moments later after going into cardiac arrest.

De’Quala McClendon, Jada’s aunt, went online and posted a video of Jada in a hospital bed — hooked up to a respirator. She was reportedly comatose after suffering acute brain trauma. “It may seem like a normal fight, but before my niece could make it home, her heart stopped,” De’Quala wrote on Facebook. “They failed my sister’s child because we are broken by this. Someone who has never been in trouble or a fight but stood her ground against a bully.”

Jada died the ensuing Sunday.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to her family and loved ones during this difficult time,” a spokesperson with the school district told reporters.

She will be remembered by her teachers, her classmates, and all who knew her.”

De’Quala said Jada and the girl didn’t know each other.

Their feud started at school and continued on the bus.

The Villa Rica Police Department and the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office are working the case.

What pisses me off is instead of breaking up the fight, several students egged ’em on while others pulled out their phones and recorded it.

The bus driver is also culpable for failing to de-escalate the situation.

One of the students can be heard saying, “She done made all these people get off the bus.”

  6. As a mother of a 12 year old daughter who’s my only child I couldn’t imagine the pain this mom is feeling. Lord I pray you lay your hands on this mother, give her strength Lord. Please God.Amen🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

  9. I will never understand why parents leave their child at the same school that is doing NOTHING to protect their child from bullying. There are other alternatives like online. Another thing, why wasn’t anyone waiting for her at the bus stop if she was being bullied? This is so sad. I am not blaming the victim or her family but schools do NOTHING but paperwork when it comes to bullying. There are no consequences. You literally have to take your child out of the school and pursue the district in court to see a change.

  11. The first sign of bulling the parents should’ve intervened without any hesitation. I’m not victim blaming because she was standing up for herself. Each child involved needs to face the consequences of their actions because this is definitely heartbreaking.

  14. My child was bullied and I notified the school that the same kids take the bus with him. They had to notify the bus driver so that the driver could be aware. Most drivers have no idea of issues at school that continue on the bus. I made sure no bully got of the same bus stop as him.
    I’m so sad. This is truly heartbreaking.

  15. This is tragic and such a shame that a beautiful life could be snuffed out for what? Not only what this young girl went through, imagine how she was feeling all the way up until that moment. She was putting on a brave front but shouldn’t have to be subjected to bullies from school where she should be able to safely learn and socialize. I am sick of hearing these stories and tragic endings. Praying for rest to this angel, peace for this family, and karma to those who need to learn their lesson. 😢❤🙏🏼

Everyone who was there and didn’t intervene to stop this situation needs to pay, and they will one way or the other because this will continue to happen over stupid crap that they could have walked away from. I hate bullies, and they should pay the consequences of their actions.

  17. Jayda’s father went to the school prior to this incident to report the bullying. That’s an important detail that was left out.

  19. The father had been to the school about bullying. The school knew what was going but quick to say they weren’t involved!! What did they do to intervene while the girls were on school property? If the conflict began at school why did they let the girls ride on the bus together?? Yes, the school is somewhat liable.

  25. Bullies have a profile. They’re usually being bullied at home. They suffer from a very low self esteem. That’s why they bully others; it covers up their insecurities. You can find a bully profile list online.
    The girl who killed Jada should never be allowed to enter any public school in the US again. She’s a threat and danger to anyone under the age of 18.
    We are a very twisted and sick society when kids enjoy watching a person get beat up, so much so that they video it.

  28. THIS IS SADLY SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I know , I was bullied in middle school and harassed for my color on my skin, and I dreaded waking up to go to school. I DONT KNOW WHO IS AT FAULT. BUT WHY DID THIS BUS DRIVER ALLOW THIS. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE!

  31. These young people have been out of control… As a former middle school teacher, I wouldn’t even bring my purse into the building. Between the cursing, the blatant disrespect of authority, the physical aggression towards each other and staff… The pervasive disregard of intellectual thought as a means of purpose and leverage in the world (To be a DUMMY, is to be popular 🫠)… and a school system that no longer offers ISS or OSS for significant behavioral infractions…

    I had to get out of there for my own peace of mind. Society has lost itself, and no, I do not know how we get it back.

  36. The family needs to SUE that school district for wrongful death. The principal and the bus driver need to be FIRED immediately and LOSE their LICENSES so they are never rehired in other school systems. The so-called “adult” who not only didn’t lift a finger to help but actually threatened the girl being victimized needs to be charged with depraved indifference. I’m sorry, but “Teach your children to love” is not the answer. Holding people accountable with real punitive consequences for aiding, abetting and not reporting bullying is the answer. In schools where kids are punished for standing by and watching this sort of thing happen, outcomes are improved. EVERYONE who did nothing needs to be punished and the world will never change until that happens.

  37. Everyone failed this young lady. The parents for whatever reason seem to think that these schools actually care about your child. The funding needs to start being pulled from these schools and when people start losing their jobs then things will actually change. The bus company needs to lose the contract for this school as a penalty for the bus driver’s failure to act. The adult who told Jada (R.I.P) to fight needs her ass beat. The girl who fought Jada needs to charged. The friend who was there needs her ass beat. If the mama knows her daughter was being bullied why wasn’t she standing at the bus stop to meet her. People take situations like bullying to nonchalantly and then when something extreme happens people wanna act concerned. May that young lady Rest In Peace and find the comfort she truly deserved.

  38. As a former bus driver, I’m enraged! If there was any report of bullying on the bus, that child would sit towards the front with the bus driver. The bully should’ve been suspended off of the school bus. You don’t let kids off at any stop and you don’t just pull away without looking at those children in your mirrors. You know your route, and what kids get off where. The police and bus yard personnel should’ve been dispatched immediately. You see a child in danger, you don’t leave. The school bus is an extension of the school. As the driver, you are in charge of your bus. Then again, you have a lot of bus drivers that are just there for a paycheck. My heart is broken. Jada should still be alive. The adults failed her. The driver had resources and training at her disposal to do the right thing and failed to do so. My heart and deepest prayers go out to Jada’s family. #JUSTICEFORJADA

    Behavior to contiue in our schools.

    The school should contact
    the parents of any child that is that is bullying other children. If the parent
    Or parents do nothing expell that child or children.

    This little girl was murdered
    The school should pay and the family of the bully muderer should be in jail .

    Those parents are no different than the parents that allowed their children to have guns or did not lock their weapons in a safe place. You are resposible for your child. The schools are responsible for their students
    Safety.
