CHARLOTTE — Here’s another reason to keep stepparents and significant others away from your kids. Benjamin Taylor, 34, was thrown in the slammer after he deleted his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Markayla Johnson, and her two children because she broke up with him. The triple-homicide transpired at Markayla’s apartment on March 3, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to multiple reports, Markayla — a victim of domestic violence — asked Benjamin to move out because she was sick and tired of being his punching bag. Rather than respect her wishes, Benjamin did the unthinkable. First, he knocked Markayla upside the head. Then, he tortured her and her two rugrats: 4-year-old Miracle Johnson and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson. All three were reported missing on March 3rd. But their bodies were found two weeks later. On March 15th, Markayla’s corpse was found tied up with cords and stashed away in a plastic storage container in the home.
Benjamin did everything he could to kill the malodor.
“Detectives also located multiple used air fresheners and candles,” the affidavit states.
“Multiple fans were turned on and the AC unit was turned down to approximately 62 degrees.”
On March 16th, the cadavers of Miracle and Messiah were found in plastic bags inside the trunk of Benjamin’s car. Miracle’s wrists were bound by a cord and she had multiple diapers wrapped around her head and countenance. On March 18th, Benjamin was captured in the middle of the Sonoran Desert in California. He was hiding out in a tent near the Mexico border.
Benjamin was arrested and charged with three counts of murder and one count of concealment of death.
“This is difficult for me as a police chief,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said at a press conference.
“Nothing is worse than the homicides of small children and family members.”
Social media reaction was vicious.
One commenter wrote, “Being alone is not a curse. Sometimes it’s a blessing.”
Another chimed in with, “I am sick of these women with children moving these dusty azz men in.”
A third person added, “Another woman bringing an old dusty around her most prized possession: her innocent babies. These ninja’s don’t care about their own kids… let alone yours.”
In addition to a 12-year age gap, Benjamin’s rap sheet is comparable to Charles Manson’s.
He did time for kidnapping, assault, breaking and entering, drug trafficking, illegal firearm possession, and more.
Yet, Markayla let him move in anyway because she was desperate to have a man.
They met online.
If you look up “Pookie” in the dictionary, Benjamin’s countenance is adjacent.
