PASCAGOULA — “🎵They smile in your face. All the time, they want to take your place. The backstabbers.🎵” Curtis James Jr., 25, was thrown in the slammer after he murdered his best friend, 27-year-old Tahj Johnson, for having a dalliance with his wife. The fatality transpired around 7:30 a.m. on August 22, 2025 at their place of employment in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Curtis and Tahj were more than good friends. They were also co-workers at Ingalls Shipbuilding — a naval shipyard 🚤 that employs 11,000 workers. According to reports, Curtis came home and caught Tahj clapping his wife’s cheeks — sparking a bout of fisticuffs. Tahj gave Curtis a beatdown prior to vacating the premises. Feeling mortified, Curtis had contretemps with his wife. “You f*cked my best friend!” he yelled. “Til death do us part, bitch!” As the quarrel intensified, Curtis grabbed his GLOCK 19X semi-automatic and shot the adulterer multiple times. Then he drove to Tahj’s mother’s house and unloaded several rounds into the vehicles parked in the driveway. The next day, Curtis confronted Tahj at work (onboard a U.S. Navy warship).
Tahj shoved Curtis, who then pulled out his gun and opened fire. Tahj stumbled into a storage room and Curtis followed him inside and emptied the clip. A lockdown and manhunt ensued. Curtis jumped off the boat, and then he tried to enter a paint supply shed to elude police. But the door was locked, and he was busted moments later. Tahj was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other employees were hurt, and they were all sent home early with full pay.
“I know that there had been a disagreement between the two men,” Pascagoula Police Chief Terry Scott told reporters.
No one else was injured. This was between the two young men.”
Ingalls President Brian Blanchette damn near had a stroke when he found out what happened.
“It’s about the worst thing you can imagine to hear,” he said.
“We value every single one of our employees. We go to great lengths to try and ensure their safety. This is not a day I would want to wish on anyone.”
Tahj’s twin sister went online and disseminated a profanity-laced diatribe at those critical of her brother’s deportment.
“All you [mothaf*ckas] are weird,” she wrote.
“I don’t even suppose to be on this app, let alone give a f*ck what y’all think. But this sh*t right here hits home and you sons of bitches will NOT tarnish my brother’s character. There was no affair. CJ’s pussy ass unalived his bitch for his own reason. My brother beat his ass and that nigga’s pride was hurt. He couldn’t take an ‘L’ so he pulled a hoe move which was murdering someone who he once called his brother. So shut the f*ck up with all the lies. I’m sick of y’all. People can never grieve in peace because of y’all wannabe fake detectives. F*ck all y’all! LongLiveMyTwin and f*ck CJ and whoever wit’ him.”
