QUEENS — “🎡Ain’t nothin’ going on but the rent🎡.” Jamaican homeowner David Daniel was thrown in the slammer after he murdered his girlfriend, 51-year-old Coleen Cesar Fields, and two of his tenants because they didn’t pay rent. The triple homicide transpired at Daniel’s residence around 7 a.m. on November 14, 2023 in Queens, New York. Police said Daniel stabbed all three while they were sleep following an ongoing dispute over unpaid rent for several years. The other deceased squatters are 57-year-old Wayne Thomas and 55-year-old Evette Sweeney. After the stabbings, Daniel walked into the 113th precinct and told police officers he “did something really bad.” The 54-year-old landlord was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Coleen’s friend, Abiola Wilson, was aware of the controversy. But she didn’t think anybody would die. “I knew they had problems with the tenants, but I’m still trying to find out how she got involved in that, why she’s not here,” Abiola said.

As he was being escorted out of the precinct, a reporter asked Daniel why he committed the crime to which he replied, “A lot of pressure.” Social media reaction was fierce. One commenter wrote, “STAY SINGLE LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Another chimed in with, “He got fed up with that rent money coming up late and short, and lost his f*ckin’ mind.” A third person added, “How about pay your damn rent or just live in your car if you can’t!”

Coleen, a native of Guyana, was a mother and grandmother.

She also worked as a medical technician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

  2. I feel sorry for him. I can imagine how he was being taken advantage of. A family of mine had to literally PAY their tenant thousands of dollars to move out. Plus lawyers fees.

  3. Killing his tenants and his girlfriend was stupid. Now he will spend the rest of his life in prison!

  4. That’s why these days in time people are not really letting people live with them. Rather you’re friends, family, girlfriend, boyfriend or someone just need a place. It’s hard to get people out your place now. You have to get a Court order now to force someone out now. Either pay your rent or leave. But killing no… don’t let anyone stay in your house if they don’t have a secondary place to go.

  5. Tenants are protected by laws while you struggle to pay mortgage. They are living for free while your house falls apart.

  6. Let’s keep it 100! The government is to be blamed! Irresponsible renters took advantage of the situation! Some tenants who were able to pay their rent abused the moratorium..View the situation from every perspective.. when you have a mortgage to pay and tenants are not paying rent but paying the shopping malls, that can send someone over the edge although I’m not condoning what the landlord did. It’s sad on both sides they lost their lives over God knows what the situation really is and he’s going to lose his freedom! The take away treat the other person the way you want to be treated… you maybe a landlord or tenant one dayπŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

  7. I didn’t kill my tenants, but these tenants can make you go crazy sometimes. I got out of this business a long time ago

  8. Now he ain’t getting no rent. But you going to jail πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜’

  9. The governor of NEW YORK has to change the laws, or else this is not going to stop. People in NYC are abusing the laws because they know that they can live in your house and don’t pay rent. Landlords have mortgages to pay and other bills. Owners can not go to the bank and tell them that they don’t have the money to pay. The bank doesn’t give a damn about your Tennant not paying you.

  10. The scum-bag lawmakers made this possible with their no eviction policy so that they can come back to use it for votes.

  11. The fact he killed the girlfriend has nothing to do with rent. They probably witnessed her cries .

  12. That was a very foolish decision cause not only will he not get rent but will loose everything and serve a long time in jail in the end was it really worth it—Hell No !! There was a lot of ways to get rid of the tenants and the girlfriend without him going to jail, that’s a sad situation

  13. Everyone has their limit. Everyone. Unfortunately he reached his limit and now he has to face the consequences.

  14. I am a 36 year old landlord who was paid no rent for over 3 years. I feel helpless

  15. I PERSONALLY FEEL SORRY FOR THAT HARD WORKING LANDLORD NOT THESE SQUATTER TENNANTS.
ITS THESE NY PRO TENNANT LAWS WHICH MAKES A NON PAYING TENNANT LIVE RENT FREE FOR UP TO 8 MTHS TO HAVE THEM SUCCESSFULY EVICTED

  16. Everyone has a breaking point… By all accounts he had been patient for several years without rent and he snapped!

  17. The system need to change here in america , a person can live in your house here in america for free and you can’t put them out, its fucked up man,, I would never never become a landlord, fuck no,, I am not going work in the cold weather and pay bills for grown ass people, fuck noooo

  18. He needs to be under the jail. He really think he’s still in Jamaica where the kill ppl and get away with it. Now he’s going to plead insanity.

  19. That’s crazy 😒that nigka snapped 😳 we live in a crazy ass world 🌎 shit is so sad 😒

  20. Wow he was in a rental dispute with the tenants AND his girlfriend??? This story is CRAZY!! πŸ™πŸ½

  21. Last week a father and son were killed over a noise dispute. A week before that a man was stabbed to death at the bus stop because of eye contact. Before that it was road rage. People can’t handle Synthetic weed πŸͺ΄

  22. @Addie Martin: It’s not funny but you start of your sentence with lolπŸ€”

  23. Took their lives for what?(rent)😒…like what could he have possibly thought he was going to get out of this?.. rent still not paid, jail time and 3 people gone for something that could have been handled much differently. Ppl need to manage their emotions and stop being so weak minded. For them to get to their 50’s and then lose their lives so tragically and senselessly is saddening. Lock him up and throw away the key. My sincere condolences to the family of the victims 🌹

  24. This didn’t have to happen. It would have been better to just let the eviction process play out rather than do this. Now there’s three lives gone. He won’t get any back rent and now loses his freedom. This won’t resolve the issue of unpaid rent. I bet it comes out later that there’s a love triangle apart of this tragic situation.

  25. I’m trying to figure out why didn’t he just evict them all if they hadn’t paid in years, wtf! RIP

  26. I don’t feel sorry for the non-paying tenants who refused to pay anything knowing damn well they could have worked out a plan to pay some portion of their rent instead of sitting, eating, living and enjoying his home for free as they cause him to lose it, NOW THAT’S EVIL!!

  27. THE TENANTS won’t have to worry (😡) about rent no mo’ !!! and
these GREAT talents are now in heaven with SAINT GEORGE FLOYD …

  28. May Coleen Fields , Evette Sweeney, and Dwayne Thomas rest in peace and my condolence to their families. πŸ™πŸΏ

  29. Look up nyc tenant laws and then yall would understand how this man snapped. Smfh pay ya blasted rent!

  30. She was a medical technician and went to her homeland for her birthday, but not able to pay rent. Make it make sense.

  31. This is the result of property being valued over human life, things need to change. Now he doesn’t get the rent money, or keep the property. His life is over.

  32. This is so sad, and tragic. They all trusted him enough to close their eyes at night and sleep.
