HOUSTON — The adventures of Pookie & Ray Ray continue. Deontray Flanagan was thrown in the slammer after he asphyxiated his 2-year-old daughter, Zevaya Flanagan, because his baby mama dumped him for another dude. The filicide transpired on March 20, 2023 in Harris County, Texas. According to reports, Kairsten Watson broke up with Deontray and found herself a new man. Rather than move on with his life, Deontray picked up Zevaya from daycare then showed up at Walmart where Kairsten worked. While there, Deontray thwacked Kairsten in the countenance multiple times before egressing the premises with her phone. Then he drove off, leading police on a high-speed chase. Kairsten’s mom, who also worked at Walmart, used her phone to contact Deontray via FaceTime. “She was on his lap, and she was gasping for air, and he had his arm around her neck squeezing tighter,” Kairsten recalled.
He said, ‘This is what you made me do. All you care about is that man.’ I (was) telling him, ‘No. Stop, please. This is your daughter. She loves you,’ and he’s still doing it.”
Not only did Deontray choke Zevaya, he drove wildly without the toddler being strapped into a seatbelt — causing her to bounce around the vehicle during the 30-mile chase. Deontray crashed into a few cars and stopped in a field near St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. A 20-minute standoff ensued before deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office moved in to bust his black ass.
Deontray was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Zevaya was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In lieu of the death penalty, Deontray received a life sentence without parole.
Kairsten’s dad, Curtis Watson, confronted him in court.
“You may have taken her last breath, but you cannot kill her spirit, her memory, or her name,” Curtis said.
What’s sad is Deontray has one helluva rap sheet.
Yet, Kairsten ignored every red flag 🚩 and procreated with him anyway.
She predicted Deontray would take Zevaya’s life.
“I told [the authorities] over and over and over that something was going to be wrong,” she bemoaned.
“They could have at least tried to find him, but even with his past, no. I said, ‘Are y’all going to wait until something happens to her?’ They didn’t believe me. They thought I was just making this up…”

i wouldve filed full custody and he wouldve never seen me or my daughter ever again…… praying for the family… that beautiful little girl life was taken for now reason… and she had nothing to do with it!!!!! the fact you can look at your OWN child and do that is beyond mentally unstable… he did not love that child… nor himself… his mind was mostly consumed with the mother of the child and what she did with her life!

This honestly has to be 1 of the worst parent/ child murders I’ve heard of. After striking his daughter hard enough to cause her little face to be bloody he then proceeds to strangle the little baby in front of her mom on facetime, how in the hell did he not get the death penalty? The prison system better put this man in general pop and not protected custody.

The cops really failed here. I understand they look at custody, but his criminal history and Kairsten’s evidence of this monster becoming unhinged should have been enough. RIP Zavaya 😢
