DALLAS — When showing an act of kindness goes tragically wrong. Keona Hampton, 22, was thrown in the slammer after she deleted 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson during an argument about bad deportment. You can’t make this sh*t up. The fatality transpired around 1 p.m. on October 7, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. According to reports, while egressing the Five Below store on Wheatland Road, Cecilia was kind enough to hold the door 🚪 open for Keona. However, a confrontation ensued when Keona failed to say “thank you.” Cecilia went to a nearby PetSmart and Keona followed her. She yelled somethin’ to the effect of, “Bitch, you ain’t my mama! Don’t tell me what the f*ck to do!” Moments later, the dispute turned physical, and Keona pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Cecilia multiple times. She was transported to the hospital, where she died.
“What was she thinking? What was going through her mind?” Cecilia’s son, Dereon Williams, asked reporters.
Why did she have to follow my mom? What provoked her to continue to engage with my mom?”
Cecilia’s mom, Lessie Wickware, said she received the horrifying news from her granddaughter. “I will never forget those screams, never,” she bemoaned. “The screams when she was calling me, telling [me] when her mother got shot. The screams in the emergency room when the doctor said she didn’t make it.” Keona fled the scene. But she was later arrested and charged with murder.
“You have taken their mother from them,” said Lessie, who was flanked by family members.
You took my daughter, you took her sister, you took her aunt, their cousin, you took her from us for no reason.”
Social media reaction was wild.
One commenter wrote, “Although tragic, you shouldn’t do nice things for people if you expect something in return. The killer was young enough to be her daughter. Just goes to show she has no respect for her elders.”
Another chimed in with, “You can’t make anyone say thank you. You can’t make anyone respect you. And, you can’t teach strangers good manners.”
A third person added, “Prison is going to teach her how to say thank you.”

Plain and simple though it was crappy not saying thank you, but you can’t have expectations on people, especially people that you do not know. Life would be so much easier if people understood this. All would have walked away and lived to see another day.
I’ve held doors open for people and not all acknowledge my kind gesture. I don’t do things for a reaction. I’m so sorry that that happened. We are not always on our best behavior.

Moral of the story… do not interact with strangers, do not do good deeds, avoid eye contact and run away from black women

When you hold open a door it’s you doing a kindness, weather or not you receive a thank you . If you never get a thank you , you’ve done a good deed .🤷🏽♀️smh
If I open the door and the person doesn’t say thank you I already know what I am dealing with. Just go on about your day because you can’t teach manners to people without training. Both these ladies allowed pride to be their guide. Hate a life was lost behind nothing.

How a kind gesture can turn into the taking of someone’s life is diabolically evil, but when it leads to the person who was trying to be courteous being the one who’s life was lost, it screams that the perpetrator is a danger to society who should have been locked up long time ago.
I’m an older black man and hold the door open for women always, and black women are the ones that rarely say thank you … but I’m older so I don’t expect them too but it’s not worth me getting upset about it because that is how BW acted most of my life. Combative over a “thank you” is crazy. Black men: be wise about your options on who you pick, and stop just thinking about sex.

Both parties played a role in this. Ms. Simpson apparently felt like it was her job to MAKE Ms. Hampton thank her for holding the door for her when she was leaving the Five Below store. While saying thank you would have been the courteous thing to do, both of these persons are grown adults and one cannot make the other do anything. Maybe ego was a problem – Ms. Simpson decided she had been disrespected ,so she’s gonna do something about it. They had words. That should have been the end of it. But it wasn’t, because Ms. Hampton wanted the last word. Other news reports indicate that Ms. Simpson left the area and drove to PetSmart, but Ms. Hampton followed her (poor decision on her part). They had MORE words. Ms. Simpson got back into her car, and Ms. Hampton threw a plastic water bottle at Ms. Simpson’s car. That was a childish move, but it is one that didn’t cause any true harm or pose a threat, so Ms. Simpson should have just gone on her way. But no, she’s got to prove that she is gonna make Ms. Hampton pay for disrespecting her. So (again, you’ll have to read other articles and see other videos to get the full picture), Ms. Simpson exits her car and starts punching the obviously smaller Ms. Hampton, who then pulls out her gun and…we know how this ends.
Both of them just had this real need to have the last word.
Ms. Simpson needed to feel like she could make Ms. Hampton pay for not saying thank you.
Ms. Hampton needed to prove that nobody is gonna make her do anything.
Ms. Simpson could have driven way after the water bottle thing – it was a stupid, small minded move on the part of Ms. Hampton which really didn’t cause damage to anything other than Ms. Simpson’s ego.
Ms. Simpson then decides that hey, she outweighs Ms. Hampton by about 100 pounds, maybe more, so she starts punching her.
Ms. Hampton decides that if you hit me, I shoot you.
Everybody loses.
It really is okay to not force your way into having the last word when dealing with a person who has shown you they are petty. You really cannot make another grown person say thank you, even if you are a lot bigger than they are. If you hit somebody, they might shoot you. If you shoot somebody and they die, you might be looking at a LOT of prison time.
Both of them could and should have done better.
This generation is a mess…they don’t have respect for anyone or anything but their cell phones…..
